About this listen
Sunday Times bestselling author Nora Roberts returns with a brand-new standalone novel—a story about the power of love to light a way through the darkness.
When he was nine, and his mother had her first deadly dance with cancer, Harry became a thief. Someone had to find food and pay the mortgage even if his mother was too sick to work. When his mother finally succumbs to cancer, Harry leaves Chicago but somehow he can't quite leave all of his past behind.
Harry lives a quiet, careful, rootless life—he can't afford to attract attention or get attached—until he meets Miranda. But just when Harry thinks he has a chance at happiness his old life comes back to haunt him. Harry has had dealings with some bad people in his past but none more dangerous than Carter LaPorte and Harry is forced to run. But no matter what name he uses or where he goes, Harry cannot escape. If he is ever going to feel safe, Harry must face down his enemy once and for all.
Only then can he hope to possess something more valuable than anything he has ever stolen.

Really good
Well-written story that pulls you in quickly, equally well-narrated. While I understand others' struggling with the protagonists' morals, I think it allows for a new perspective and an interesting backdrop for the story and still has me rooting for them. Afterall, the 'baddie' is much worse! What grates more on me is the portrayal of the lead women as often being perceived as too good to be true & in this instance with the male lead too (dubious morals aside). There are lots of interesting characters & enough layers to the plot to make for an engrossing listen.

Excellent story line
This was a well thought out story line. To have started at a very young age the main caricature drew you into the story of his life. Before I had listened to half the story I was ordering another book from this author. Brilliant.

loveable characters
Very well narrated. I agree with other reviews that the characters were a bit far-fetched, but that's what made them entertaining and so loveable.

heart warming, unmissable.
Norah has excelled herself yet again I couldn't stop listening to this book, the story was bought into brilliance by the narrator. he put the right amount of feeling into the story to bring it to life.
I had to turn off the story when La Port came after Booth to do a job and he had to leave Maranda and the possibilities of a future together.

Very enjoyable but ..,,
…. the romantic conversations were too slushy for my taste and I thought the sex scenes were unnecessarily long and detailed.
It was a good story and didn’t need that level of detail. There are romance books for those who like that kind of thing. I felt myself cringe at until those bits passed.
Great believable characters and ok a good romance or two was in there. I’d like to see these characters back for a second book - but without unnecessary slush.
Great narration - a few dodgy accents but forgivable as there were a lot of them.
