Summary
Night

A lot scarier than I thought!
This book seems like a light horror read at first but is in fact pretty heavy going! I thought it would make an excellent movie as well. The narrator is very skilled and does males and females with different accents well. I really enjoyed it! Don’t listen if you are squeamish!

not bad
werewolf horror...
i just don't think it was for me.
the author is clearly talented and the narrator was superb, but i just didn't click with the story, i felt it was more telling than showing which didn't do well for atmosphere, and it was clear from the beginning that it'll be werewolves so there was little room for mystery.
however, if you love werewolves, than you should definitely pick this up as it's probably a brilliant book in the right hands.

Night,winter and death
Loved it! A perfect old fashioned monster book!Written in the 1990's,this book is before cell phones or computers.It is when you had to trudge through snow to ask questions about the possibility of shape shifters.I loved all the reminders of the age.Jon Oak was perfect as narrator. I was given this book by the narrator,author or publisher free for an honest review.

Unexpectedly good!!
It all starts when a man dies! An elderly lady tells everyone that unless he is buried properly right away, the curse will awaken. Nobody listens because the ground is too hard, and they call her a kook. But when Ernie is doing his rounds, he encounters the curse and nothing is ever the same for him again!
I thoroughly enjoyed the plot! It starts out slowly, but the tension builds continuously until the curse takes effect and then it ramps up even more. I enjoyed the take on the werewolf and how the curse takes effect, it was a nice twist. The characters were all well written and developed. It was easy to connect with them and become invested in their tale.
In all, this was an unexpectedly good read! I wasn't too sure what to expect, but what I got was a great werewolf read. I look forward to more from this author.
This seems to be Jon Oaks' first narration and he did really well. He was clear, easy to follow and read this well. I did find his voices for certain characters were very similar, but since it's his first time, I'm impressed with how good he did.
I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Surprisingly enjoyable
I suppose I could claim to be getting into the spirit of Halloween with this novel of a werewolf legend coming to life, but in truth I'm not a massive fan of the celebration. It existed when I was growing up, but it always felt a bit American and a bit faked, but only in the context of being an imported celebration. I did enjoy the book though, maybe a bit more than I expected to. I was reminded of reading Richard Laymon, way back before I discovered crime fiction, not that I could put my hand on heart and say Laymon ever penned a werewolf book.
Small town setting, remote, isolated, cut off when the weather is bad and obviously it gets bad here, the death of the oldest resident and the reactivation of the curse, which sees the unburied man biting nice guy, ex-cop, security man Ernie. Ernie then morphs into a werewolf and terrorises the town.
Simple plot as such, but I enjoyed the focus on the townsfolk, in particular, Ernie's niece, the young police chief, the kid reporter and the local author. A lot of the drama focuses on finding out more about the legend, concerns over Ernie and his health before he goes full-blown werewolf, investigating the murders, worrying about a pregnant wife, fighting off the unwelcome attentions of the town mayor who seems to think he can co-erce sex from Ernie's niece (name escapes me) who is also a teacher, a horny woman running an old folk's home and grabbing sex with the young employee and lots more.
It's a busy book, which as it progresses gets faster and wilder as the tension mounts. I think Pedneau might have had fun writing it. I hope so because I had fun reading the thing. I think the characters made the book ... their interactions, the conflicts, the sex, the legend backstory, the school scenes, the teenage lovers, the morphing and the escalation, with widespread panic, leading to vigilantism and mob fear.
Parking my realism/credibilty meter at the door, before entering this one, it was quite satisfying.

Really enjoyed it

Narrator: Jon Oak
I found the beginning to be a little slow as the writer sets the scene for the curse but that’s probably because I was eager to get to the horror and havoc that this original style werewolf would wreak.
The writer does a good job of portraying how isolated the town is and the hysteria that can lead to vigilante chaos. Overall this was a very enjoyable horror.
I love the narrator’s voice for this story, I found his delivery to be excellent and his voice well suited to the theme.
