About this listen
The Carter women don't follow the rules: they make them.
The brilliant gangland thriller from the Sunday Times bestselling author of Diamond.
Gangster Max Carter and his ex-wife Annie Carter are leading separate lives in separate countries: past hurts and broken promises cannot be resolved. But then a summons to Majorca and a tragic death makes Max question all that has happened to him over many years.
He had two brothers - both are now dead. His closest friend has been found hanging from a London bridge. As the police wrestle with a seemingly unsolvable case, Max is forced to revisit his painful past to find answers to a mystery that seems to make no sense at all. Who is targeting his family and why?
Annie Carter is at a crossroads in life. She has a luxurious lifestyle but no one to share it with, and Max clearly thinks she is in danger too. Her daughter, Layla, has left her mafia lover Alberto Barolli and is back in London, stumbling into the police investigation and making waves. You should never go back, so the old saying goes. But then, the Carter women don't follow the rules, they make them.
And when the truth of what's been happening is finally revealed, will the Carter family stand together - or will it finish them for good?

A brilliant way of filling in the gap
A great way of taking the story forwards, while still filling in all the gaps. Really hope it goes further. Thoroughly enjoyed the series.

Loved it
After reading the whole series I wasn’t sure what to expect with this- perhaps just a summing up or similar- but I was very pleasantly surprised as I really enjoyed the whole thing! The narrator was great and much as I love Annie Aldington I found listening to this story told by someone with a softer accent was much easier on the ears!
I’m hoping there’s more to tell as I’m sure these great characters still have plenty of life left in them yet. Cmon Jessie - we want more!!

Worth the wait
Long wait for this book but worth the wait. I’ve listened to all the books in this series and it was like putting on a pair of comfy slippers, back into the world of Annie and Max Carter, my favourite fictional crime couple. Jessie Keane really brings these characters to life and makes you feel like you know them. More please

Thoroughly enjoyed this book
Didn’t want it to end. The way the story weaved back over things we had already been aware of and worked through bringing us back to present day was brilliant!

Excellent
Another brilliant addition to the Annie carter series!
Very well written and clever how it is linked to the previous book, answering questions we never knew would be answered.
