David Suchet
About this listen
Acclaimed British actor, David Suchet, reads the first five book of the Holy Bible.
Ever since he became a Christian at the age of forty, it has been Poirot actor David Suchet's dream to make an audio recording of the whole Bible. Starting with the writings of the Apostle Paul to accompany his BBC1 documentary, 'In the Footsteps of St Paul', Suchet now turns his attention to the Law - the first five books of the Bible - Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
Scripture is taken from the Holy Bible, New International Version, 2011 translation.

The Voice of The Law
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I have in fact already done so. I find that the clear and pleasant narration is comfortable to listen to for just about anyone, there is no marked accent that some may find difficult to get along with and the voice is crisp with a clean sound.
Who was your favorite character and why?
It is difficult to define a favourite character, so I'll allow this section to remain mostly blank.
Which character – as performed by David Suchet – was your favourite?
Suchet's performance when narrating the voice of God is perfect. The shift in his voice at these moments is a subtle, but strong and caring note. It blends in with the overarching narration of the work well, without coming off as overstated or displaced, and I must say, it is the first time I've been given chills from hearing the curses placed on Adam, Eve and the Serpent in Genesis read out to me.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Many would say it is difficult to have an emotional reaction to the Law, given the content of some of it's books, however given that with this audiobook I've not only been able to read through it page by page, but also actively enjoy doing so. That is a testament in it's own right.
Any additional comments?
This audiobook is worth listening to. Even if you do not own the NIV (I own the RSV) it makes a comfortable companion while reading through your own, the texts are similar enough that it is easy to keep track.I look forward wholeheartedly to hearing later installments.

NIV Old Testament
What did you like most about NIV Bible: the Law?
This is a beautifully read, clearly spoken audio version of the NIV Bible. Mr Suchet's voice clear and really rather lovely to listen to.
Any additional comments?
This audio book is an absolute God send. I have searched and searched for a British audio version and could not find one. It is a great help in reading the law books of the Old Testament, which can be a bit tough to read through, but we must read, as they are all part of God's wonderful Word. Now, thanks to Hodder and Stoughton and Mr Suchet spending so much time in making this version, it will be so much easier and a joy to do so.
