Summary
A mysterious outbreak has spread quickly, ravaging the globe. The illness is debilitating and deadly. Those who suffer from the virus succumb to a horrible death. Unfortunately, it doesn't end there. The infection transforms them into an unstoppable force of mindless killing machines.
At the onset of the epidemic, Nila Carter and her family retreated to her father's cabin in search of safety and seclusion from all that transpired around them. With supplies, fresh water and fertile ground, they were joined by a handful of strangers and positioned themselves for long-term survival.
Despite the losses that each of them suffered, they resolve to stay put and emotionally move forward no matter how long it takes. However, their plan to homestead at the cabin is cut short when they soon realize the world isn't quite as dead as they believed. The infected aren't the only thing to fear.

Okay - bit disappointed after book 1
Like many of the other reviewers I really enjoyed book 1 and I was a bit disappointed in this one. It still was good and as I am invested in the characters so I will continue to see how it ends.
Really did like the narration

so disappointing after book One!
I was so looking forward to this book, having loved Dead WorOnel The story was ok, but the narration was awful- wooden and annoying; the narrator in the first book was brilliant, made the story.
Will be removing the other books on the series from my wish list; might consider listening if they're ever free, but will not waste a credit on them! So angry I wasted this month's credit.

lacked direction
I enjoyed book 1 immensely. While I also enjoyed book 2, it didn't build the story or come to any satisfactory conclusion. Let's hope the follow on books get back to the promising story of book 1.

Great Series!
Really enjoying this take on an apocalypse, unfortunately this second book is narrated robotically. It’s strange as some sentences are read fluently then it sounds like a robots taken over, makes it quite a difficult listen but still worth trying to get over that as the storylines fab.

Appreciated the jeopardy
such a refreshing change to find an author with the guts to kill off main characters when the story calls for it. Too many follow the old Star Trek concept of the newbie in the away party is a gonner. Enjoyed all 3 of these books because you really couldn't predict who was next for the chop.

Great story, awful narration
The story was brilliant but the narrator sounded like a robot and I found it so frustrating. I don’t understand how this got approved but the story was great.

Mixed feelings
After having really enjoyed the first book I felt compelled to carry on with the series. However this book fell far short of the first. I loved some of the new characters especially Corbin but felt that that he wasn't utilised as much as he could have been. Nila is a bit annoying and a bit on the stupid side but then that makes her believable so it works.. There where some good twists in this book but something for me fell flat. I just felt that the depth of characters and storyline could have been so much more but it just wasn't. I will hopefully find the third book more like the first. I like the narrator.

Narrator
This is such a good book that’s let down in parts by the narration…. Why does chapter 11 sound like a robot reading it !

A more gentle read
This book is more about the characters. The first book obviously was more action packed as it was during the initial outbreak. I’m glad I listened to it though. A few surprises I didn’t expect. I’m going to get book 3 now , I’m curious to see what’s next for them .
