About this listen

Looking for an escape from childhood abuse, Reymundo Sanchez turned away from school and baseball to drugs, alcohol, and then sex and was left to fend for himself before age 14. The Latin Kings, one of the largest and most notorious street gangs in America, became his refuge and his world, but its violence cost him friends, freedom, self-respect, and nearly his life. This is a raw and powerful odyssey through the ranks of the new Mafia, where the only people more dangerous than rival gangs are members of your own gang, who in one breath will say they'll die for you and in the next will order your assassination.

Contains mature themes.

Really good listen

So I just thought the story seemed interesting but actually in parts it is pretty gripping and no idea how someone could live like that

gang life

I really enjoyed this book , so much so, I couldn't put it down.
I found it a it slow going initially but 4 chapters in I was gripped. narrated well, good clear expressionate voice.
you can easily understand how easy it is to slip into a world of gangs and violence. with no one to turn to, nowhere to go, what does a young teenager do when he has been abandoned?
definitely recommend this book

Gritty raw real

This is a really gripping book, a straightforward and honest account of one young boy’s descent into hell on the streets of Chicago. Highly recommended.
