About this listen

Three children have been kidnapped by some mysterious, mad aunts and panic is spreading. But Myrtle, Coral and Etta are far from killers - they need the children to help them in a very caring mission.

The secret island where they live is a sanctuary for strange and wonderful creatures - mermaids, selkies, the amazing boobrie bird, and even the great Kraken himself.

The kidnapped children love their magical new life - but the Island of Monsters has become the target of some dangerous villains who want to turn it into a theme park.

Excellent Storyteller, Lacklustre Story

I had previously bought another of Eva Ibbotson's books, 'The Great Ghost Rescue', which I greatly enjoyed, and had decided to purchase this one in the hopes that it will follow suit. Sadly, 'Monster Mission' didn't quite grab me as 'Ghost Rescue' did in terms of the story and its characters. It seemed to jump about too much with who or what we were suppose to focus on and, even with the tense scenes midway, it seemed to ramble on a bit.

However, Julian Rhind-Tutt was an excellent Storyteller. He put in a lot of emotion, energy and accents in his performance and kept my attention more than the story itself. He's worth buying just to listen to, really!
