Summary

From the author who brought the world Paddington Bear, comes the new book in the delightful Parisian mystery series featuring Monsieur Pamplemousse and his canine partner, Pomme Frites.

In this latest adventure, they must get to the bottom of a mystery surrounding the tarnishing of the integrity of Le Guide - France's premier hotel and restaurant guide. What they couldn't anticipate was that the case would involve a nun who is in the habit of joining the Mile High Club...

Yawn!

Too slow. I don’t even know what the story is about and cannot continue to find out

"Farcically" funny and laugh out loud.

If you didn't know any better, you'd know this was written by the same author of the wonderful Paddington Bear stories! The flights of fancy are so reminiscent of the great little bear himself. The Pamplemousse and Pommes Frites duo are an absolute jest to the point that l laughed out loud on multiple occasions. The detection work isn't too shabby either. Bond is a brilliant writer and Bill Wallis is a spectacular narrator. That duo is a heaven-made combination.

Good story but a little too slow.

This book dragged along a bit despite being quite a good story with some interest characters. .

Listened to the end but no idea what was going on

I don’t like to give up on audiobook so I did finish this one but despite a few amusing bits I really have no idea what was going on in this plot.

I found the narrator very difficult to hear when he was doing his growly French accented bits. This didn’t really help me follow the story.

Great fun and a good ol' crime to boot!

I really enjoyed this book. Obviously Pomme Frite is the star of the show. Not only does he have a great nose for exquisite food he seems to be able to sniff out the bad guys too.

Very cosy crime but rather lovely

Thoroughly enjoyed this characterful and gentle tale. For me, it's a nice antidote to the fast-paced thrillers I often read or listen to. Great for bedtime listening as it won't give you nightmares and the narration is beautiful. I miss the characters already. Triciax

Entertaining and well read

Another amusing story from Michael Bond expertly narrated by Bill Wallis. For me the story is less important than the characters who are well developed.

Excellent Story Beautifully Read

An enjoyable return to the Parisien world of Le Guide and its stock pots in which Pommes Frites must come to the rescue of Aristide Pamplemousse once again. The bloodhound shows remarkable discernment!
I particularly enjoyed the gastronomic references and the detailed routes through Paris, a city that we can’t visit in person just now due to the pandemic. For the duration of this book I felt as though I was travelling through those streets again in an aged 2CV.
Very much hope that Audible will add more Pamplemousse books before too long.

Deliciously Slow

This book, like ‘Le Guide’, is slow-cooked to perfection. If you’re looking for a sumptuous read - look no further.

Witty, Saucy, Comic, Inventive, and Pure Fun

This is another book written by the writer of the Paddington Bear stories, but leaning heavily towards adults. Again Monsieur Pamplemousse has to come to the aid of the gastronomic guide book for whom he works and more particularly his errant boss the Director of the guide. Quickly enough we are in a jet returning to France from America and the Director morally stumbles, and the only person who can help is Pamplemousse. Well he is an ex-policeman. Things soon compound and soon it is clear that dark forces are seeking to bring down the guide-book. Pamplemousse is challenged in many ways and his beloved dog Pommes Frites is a target for disgrace too. Michael Bond writes with a joyous abandon that delights the listener. This Audible series is always fun. Bill Wallace is again exceptional in his performance of this excellent book.
