About this listen

The Méridiens are fleeing to their far colonies - and they have reason to run. Over the course of decades, they have lost hundreds of ships, billions of people, and seven Confederation colonies to an alien enemy: an advancing swarm of silver ships transported in the bowels of a gigantic, spherical vessel.

Alex Racine, who once enjoyed the solitary life of an explorer-tug captain, is now an admiral and responsible for the lives of a quarter million Librans. Further complicating his life, Alex's Librans have made it clear they don't want to settle on his home world. They want a new home, and he must secure them one.

The silver ships await Alex's makeshift flotilla at Libre, the last colony they consumed. Thus far Alex's people have succeeded in skirmishes against the enemy's fighters. Now, though, they're preparing to attack the entire alien fleet and halt the devastation of the colonies.

To the surprise and chagrin of his officers and crew alike, Alex concocts a new plan, for he believes humanity faces not one but two alien species, and one may be enslaved to the other. If so, Alex believes, slaves should be liberated, not obliterated.

To test Alex's theory, his people must capture a wholly intact silver ship - a feat never before accomplished. The crew remains doubtful, but their admiral is determined to communicate with the aliens before he's forced to destroy them, and his wish is their command.

More Yarn - bit less ripping - but that's fine!

Any additional comments?

In this episode three, (non-spoiler review) the first quarter of the book is taken up with resolving the twist ending of episode two. Then we get into the meat of this part of the yarn .... exactly what is the nature of the inhabitants of the Silver Ships? Where are they from? Why are they here? What can be done about them? I can understand why some people think this section is a little long but as I am already deep into episode 4, I understand that episode 3 makes absolute sense!

The final quarter of episode 3 is a simple problem for our hero and his friends to solve ... They now have a quarter of a million refugee Librans, Meridians and New Terrans drifting through space in their small armada, just how do you start a new world? I am loving this adventure serial .... and if you trust me? Episode 4 gets ripping again!

A great book

I really enjoyed listening to this space opera and adventure story. I wasn't expecting which alien species the humans would come into contact with. I must recommend this.

All filler no thriller!!!

Sorry this was a short book stretched with mind numbing details about an alien species which was unnecessary and painfully dull. I don't think I'll down load the next book. I rarely leave bad comments but I felt the need. Poor show!

Hard Going

Could not get into this at all; narration may have had something to do with it as, although the diction was very clear and precise, it came across as boring. So much so that I couldn’t finish the book.
