Summary

"What's so hard about pulling a sword out of a stone? The real work's already been done. You ought to make yourself useful and find the man who put the sword in the stone in the first place."

Fate is a word that springs to the lips when to call something coincidence seems mealy mouthed. Destiny is another such. But the problem with destiny is, of course, that she is not always careful where she points her finger. One minute you might be minding your own business on a normal, if not spectacular, career path; the next you might be in the frame for the big job. Like saving the world.

True Pratchett

Brilliant story in true Pratchett humour. Well read by Tony Robinson. A thoroughly enjoyable “read”.

Men At Arms

It was perfect! Tony Robinson read beautifully and did justice to the late Sir Terry Pratchett. Loved it.

Absolutely Fantastic

Great book, wonderfully read by Tony Robinson. Left wanting to hear the next instalment in the adventures of the night watch.

Love this story

I thoroughly enjoy Tony Robinson as a narrator. Even if it is an abridged version.

Abridged and adored

Once again a fantastic story by TP and an excellently voiced reading by Tony Robinson. Definitely worth a listen

3/10…overall, but since 2/3rds is missing, a solid 1* at best

Waste of money. Nasal voiced narration, terrible pronunciation of the names (changes throughout the story). Production is far better than some of the full titles (such as Soul Music).
Much of the art of Pratchett is in the storytelling, most (if not all) is lost in the hatchet job that the editors have done to cut the script down. Maybe that is why Robinson as narrator sounds so disinterested and the story is lifeless.
Don’t waste your money or time - but the full version and any time you see an abridged Terry Pratchett just ignore and move on.

Incredible story -completely ruined by absolutely AWEFUL narrator. Please get Stephen Briggs to re-do.

This narrator completely ruined this wonderful book for me :( He was just AWEFUL!
The one voice and accent which he does do very well is Lady Sybil, he does her marvelously.
However; Vimes, Colon, Vetinari, Carrot, many other minor characters and especially Angua are absolutely AWEFUL. Dreadful.
I love this story so much but I can get no enjoyment from this recording, it is just so incredibly terrible.
PLEASE, please get Stephen Briggs to re-do this book. He is the only one who does everyone’s accent and voice perfectly.
