Summary
Groundbreaking anthropologist and memory champion Lynne Kelly reveals how we can use ancient and traditional mnemonic methods to enhance and expand our memory.
Our brain is a muscle. Like our bodies, it needs exercise. In the last few hundred years, we have stopped training our memories and we have lost the ability to memorize large amounts of information - something our ancestors could do with ease.
After discovering that the true purpose of monuments like Easter Island and Stonehenge were to act as memory palaces, Kelly takes this knowledge and introduces us to the best memory techniques humans have ever devised, from ancient times and the Middle Ages to methods used by today’s memory athletes. A memory champion herself, Kelly tests all these methods and demonstrate the extraordinary capacity of our brains at any age.
For anyone who needs to memorize a speech or a script, learn anatomy or a foreign language, or prepare for an exam, Memory Craft offers proven techniques and simple strategies for anyone who has trouble remembering names or dates, or for older people who want to keep their minds agile. In addition to getting in touch with our own human and anthropological foundations, Memory Craft shows how all things mnemonic can be playful, creative, and fun.

Memory palaces
I have just discovered the world of memory training and how to remember things effortlessly. I have struggled to find a person who explains how to use a memory palace for scientific subjects such as the ones I am currently studying. This book went further than I’ve been able to find so far. I will have to read up and decide how I’m going to use the function of a memory palace to, Aid me in learning what I have to. I wish I discovered this whilst still in school. It would’ve been fantastic as my imagination is brilliant and I’m constantly making up stories. Some of what is written in here in this book, was not necessary for me, however overall I like the fact that examples are added allowing you to decide whether or not it is useful to you. My Disappointment is in the fact that I had no access to a PDF document to see what is referred to as you go through the book.
an accompanying PDF with links to the relevant examples would have been very very useful. I have spoken to Amazon about it and they don’t seem to have an accompanying PDF so for that I think I reduce the stars for the story as for some parts I was unable to picture what was being explained to me.
The orator reads well and is not irritating at all. And for that I am grateful.
