Summary

For the first time, a blistering, highly charged account from the man known as 'Marine A' who was at the centre of the controversial murder of a wounded Taliban fighter. His case led to an unprecedented wave of public support which raised over £800,000 to fund his appeal. The nerve-shredding situations Sgt. Blackman operated within, under sustained attack for long periods, living in the unrelenting horror of a theatre of war, took their toll mentally and physically.

Stitched up

He was stitched up! The government trained him to kill then punished him for doing what he was trained to do

Heartfelt

The story behind this royal is incredible, though the narrator mispronounces many military terms, names and phrases which can be cringy.

Reality vs The Law

This account brings home the reality of young men
serving in a war zone. The way in which Sgt Bkackman was treated is scandalous and those in authority should hang their heads in shame. Also.....! this debacle must have cost the taxpayer a lot of money. As usual the only beneficiaries were the lawyers.

I liked all of it except the narrators tendency to mispronounce certain words. I.e. 'corps' being pronounced like corpse. It's the job of editors to sort this stuff out.

Fantastic

This is a fantastic book of a man who did the deeds of his government, only to be staged in the back by the same people we was sent to fight for

tryanical establishment verses soldier A

horrible chance circumstance, one moment , one decision and fight for fair justice.
UK shame of establishment draconian MOD treatment of front line troops. Without the fair and the free of this country to speak up where would they be !

As real as it gets

As a veteran myself battling my own mental demons I can relate to Sgt Blackman on many things! The feeling of being let down by the MOD a story many of us feel. I felt I knew Al even though I have never actually met him and I'm so pleased he has come out of all this with his head held high.

My only criticism is not aimed at the story but more the narrator. I wish they had someone who had served narrate the story as many of the military names given to things or places served were pronounced incorrectly which unless you served you would not notice but its something that did annoy me.

I would certainly recommend this to all those interested in the struggles many go through after giving our all to our country.

Lastly to Claire, I know she won't see this but what an absolutely amazing person you are, steadfast throughout I salute you, God bless.

Hoofing

I had heard various versions of this story, it was refreshing to hear it from SGT Blackman himself. His humble, honest account of the incidents leading to this story is a must read / listen. The fact that we are all human, and we all have feelings, and no one is invincable is forgotten by some. The author explains his thoughts and fears through his challenges, he is a pure inspiration, and gives hope to those who are facing difficult times. His true love and respect to his wife is apparent, which in effect helped Marine A to his release. PER MARE PER TERAM

A great true story.

A moving account of a hero's greatest battle against the very people and establishment who should have had his back.
Spoilt only by a few missing pieces of dialogue which seems quite common with Audible just lately.
