About this listen
This is the long-awaited memoir of BBC/Masterpiece Theatre actor Robin Ellis, the original Captain Ross Poldark in the BBC classic television series. This expanded edition includes an all new chapter documenting Robin's return to television as part of the new series produced by Mammoth Screen, on behalf of the BBC and Masterpiece/PBS, with Aidan Turner as the new Poldark.
First broadcast in the 1970s, this saga of thwarted love, passion, and swashbuckling adventure, set against hard times in 18th-century Cornwall, became an international sensation, popular in over 40 countries around the world. The memoir also describes the behind-the-scenes story of the original BBC/Masterpiece Theater series, the ongoing effect of "Poldark perks" on Robin's life, and his transformation into a cookbook author.

Thanks Robin
I watched all the original Poldark when it was first shown on television. We were all a little in love with Ross played by Robin Ellis. I've watched the new series too and enjoyed it. I listened to this account through making shortbread biscuits, stuffed chicken breasts and a complicated chocolate pudding. Hearing Robin Ellis read his book was lovely, I am off to look for his cookbook now.

Lovely listen
I would have loved this to be longer. There are so many stories to tell from Robin Ellis’ time on Poldark!

Fabulous
A wonderful trip down memory lane, with so many unknowns added in. Well written with humour & so well narrated, thank you Robin. The addition of a brief glimpse of the new Poldark, was the cherry on the top. Loved it

What a pleasant surprise.
I purchased this audible book because I live in Chilgrove Barn near Chichester which featured in the first Poldark series. We acquired a video tape of the series having missed it when it aired since we lived in Holland at that time.
On moving to Chilgrove in 1998 our new neighbours told us of the Poldark link. Lovely scenes of our barn before it was converted to a residence and excellent BBC quality filming including the main characters and local extras in their youth!
I have always admired Robin Ellis as an accomplished actor, but was less familiar with his voice work. Listening to this captivating story through his wonderful interpretation and delivery had been a true pleasure.
Unfortunately, no reference was made to Chilgrove, but the experience has prompted us to purchase the DVD set of the original Poldark series since we no longer have a functioning video player. We are so looking forward to enjoying it - fir the first time in its entirety.
Thank you Robin Ellis - excellent work.

Easy commentary. Pleasant to listen too and very interesting to hear about the first Poldark series.
