Summary
From the best-selling author of The Rules of Supervillainy: Captain Cassius Mass can only run so far from his problems and the galaxy isn't big enough to hide from those pursuing him. Cassius soon finds himself blackmailed into a mission that will clear him of all charges as well as protect him from future persecution: bring an end to the civil war currently racking the galaxy. Accompanied by a new set of untrustworthy allies, the crew of the Melampus, and the A.I duplicate of his dead wife - Cassius needs to figure out how to not only deal with his target but also his employers.
Because the entire universe is at stake.

Excellent series !
I truly would love to have a conversation with the author of this series C. T. Phipps because it feels to me that he thinks somewhat similar as me only that I take it much farther like I don’t believe in free will and as Einstein proved that time is relative and he explained it in a complicated math plus he showed simple way how every person can feel it well I can prove it just like he did simply so how do we know that a year is truly a year close to the speed of light made us feel that it’s much longer and we and our DNA which exist everywhere in this universe is actually one big computer calculating every time we mix DNA by making babies and even bees and plants mix DNA so we got the chips which feel like they work slow but could be amazingly fast.
Any way don’t expect all to understand but the author should.

Excellent continuation of the series
I enjoyed Lucifer's Nebula every bit as much as book #1 (Lucifer's Star), possibly even more so. The crew are all back with their sharp banter (especially William, who you just can't help but smirk at his snarky dislike of Cassius). The galaxy-building is rich, both in present and historical. The narration is once again flawlessly superb. I recommend the Lucifer's Star series to any fan of adult-oriented space-based hard SF.

Submit to the inevitable...
Submit to the inevitable. Nice line.
Of the current two books I’m not sure which I enjoy more with the nuanced differences.
Nebula’s backstory has a greater sobriety, with a more responsible Mass shouldering the fate of a species on his earlier planet/crew.
The authors’s humour is heavily present within the tangled plot lines of mistrust and inevitable betrayal, with the addition of a couple of new characters. Fade worked well with another tier of threat/humour of the two, namely due to having more page/ear time. I’ve imbibed ebook & audiobook in quick succession and the story stood up well in both, with an accomplished audio production.
The authors’ prodigious enthusiasm for the sci-fi genre is abundant in a downplayed vibe in marked contrast to the supervilliany series and is punchy as a result. You have a nod to Borg, a quazi death star and star destroyer and Dune combat sequences. They work well in a visual display without being trite and overwhelming. They work to points and not being a cheap gag as the conclusion revolves around Mass minus his crew. I enjoyed that, seeing him dig his way through a precarious number of situations, without being bailed out to sarcasm and gags. It could have done with a tad more pace after the nebula arrival as I felt that in both formats. Almost perfect to a trained cynic.
Arguably the best of CT Phipps (and co) work and if I have any complaint with the series it is the covers. They don’t do the story and characters justice. I look forward to the next story as the wrecking ball epilogue was a neat and confident touch and a pleasure to have upgraded the ebook on audible.

Family reunion
Captain Cassius Mass and his crew are again drawn into the murky world of spies, as he is tasked to go up against his cloned family and stop the destruction of the universe. Good story, more William needed, as he bounces of Cassius well.
