Summary

Going home to her twin brother’s house in Charleston with her tail between her legs is the last thing Dani wants to do. But when she walks out on her fashion house dream job, she doesn’t exactly have a choice. Living in New York City is anything but free.

But going back to Charleston...Alex is in Charleston. And facing down her ex? Her ex who just happens to be stepson to her former boss? Even her love for Southern humidity and shrimp and grits can’t make that confrontation worth it. There’s just so much that could go wrong. Even scarier? Dani still hasn’t forgotten that when they were together, everything felt so right.

Despite their reservations, Alex and Dani find plenty of ways to spend time together. (A wedding dress heist? Why not?) As they unravel the real reasons why Alex left New York - and Dani - will they be able to rediscover the happily ever after they always hoped for?

Love Redesigned is a stand-alone, full-length, clean romance with a strong supporting cast and a happily ever after you won’t expect.

Southern accents were on point!

I'm so glad I waited till the right mood for this story! I had previously picked it up, but I don't know if it was my second hand embarrassment, my having (kinda) recently listened to another audiobook with a Dani as its main character too, or if I just wasn't feeling it, but I decided to pause it mid-chapter and let a bit of time pass. The result was I definitely appreciated the story more, and got completely invested in it the second time around!

I loved how "mature" it all was in that Dani definitely has unresolved issues with Alex (her ex) thanks to his ghosting her, while also having much longer-standing issues with her twin brother Isaac, at the beginning of the book and they don't get resolved in one simple conversation (as is the case with other stories). In Love Redesigned we clearly see that relationships of any kind take time, effort, and lots of communication. I loved that we got both Dani and Alex's POVs, since it gave the reader a glimpse into their pasts, a much broader understanding of the situation, and made it harder to simply take one of their sides. I loved watching Dani's character growth throughout the book (taking responsibility for the actions she'd made in the past) as well as Alex's realizing and learning from his mistakes. Granted, while I'm not a fan of gay characters in the books I read, Chase and Darius (married couple) proved to be great friends to Dani, as well as Paige and, eventually, Isaac. Also, while I didn't expect the ending to happen the way it did (especially with the wedding heist), I guess, in retrospect, it fits the "mature" theme I mentioned before (don't worry, it's an "all's well that ends well", and "love conquers all in the end" kind of HEA).

Part of the reason why I'm glad I took a second chance on this book is thanks to the narrators. Yes, Dani's took me a couple of her chapters to get used to, whereas Alex's had me hooked from the moment he said "Chapter 2", but both their Southern accents were perfect and definitely brought the book to life. All the different character impersonations were on point, and they nailed the nuances, be it eagerness, confusion, anger, hopefulness and everything in between, along with voices getting hoarser, whispers, etc.

Overall, a pretty great first-in-series by Jenny Proctor that guarantees the laughs as well as the swoony moments (those sizzling sweet kisses were on point), and has me looking forward to the next book in the series. ~ 4.5 stars
