Summary
There's a murderer on the loose on a storm swept island cut off from the Scottish mainland. It's down to Losers Club, a quirky weight loss group led by the intrepid Penny Moon, to catch the culprit.
When Old Archie the postman is shot and ends up in Mrs Hubbard's ice cream freezer, the whole island is aghast. Especially Mr Hubbard, who objects strongly to having to move all the ice lollies into the other freezer. Newly divorced and desperate to make a life for herself and her teenage children, Penny Moon arrives on Vik just in the nick of time, before the island is cut off by a storm. Her weight loss business doesn't have the best of starts, when a series of blunders leads to it being called Losers Club. However, it does have the best of people—a decent, disparate bunch who decide that, with the police unlikely to arrive any time soon and a murderer on the loose, it is down to Losers Club to investigate. As they dig deeper into the mystery, they uncover a dark secret, kept by the older islanders for almost half a century. A secret that has come back to haunt them and threatens their very existence.

Unexpected
I thought this would be a cosy mystery that would help me drop off to sleep. I didn't expect the laugh out loud moments. Yes, there's a fair bit of swearing and an implausible storyline but it was entertaining and well read.

Not the greatest.
I listened to the end of this book but could easily have given up. The story is slow and there is to much effort put in to trying to make what are really poor jokes. The characters are really not very likeable and the story is unbelievable. I don't like negative reviews but I'm sorry I can't really think of anything outstanding to say about this book apart from the fact it is struggling to be average. I suppose the best thing about it is the narration which is quite good.

Brilliant
I had a smile on my face nearly all the way through. Even at the F word. Usually I stop reading, listening or watching after a few of those but not this time. I am off now insearch of more from this pen. It certainly cheered up the past few days. Later I will listen to it again.

New favourite author
If you’re a fan of Richard Osmand’s books, you’ll love this. Quirky, witty and fun.

Enjoyable but far from believable
Good narration
Far fetched story line
Annoying lack of realism in the relationships and actions of the characters.
Apparently dedicated mother dumps her traumatised children into the care of their Grandparents (who live in Scotland, miles from their previous home in London so have mostly likely barely spent time with them!) while she strikes up a dubious, time consuming relationship with a near total stranger.
No spending time with the children, showing them round the island, making an effort to settle them in. Never a word to the Grandparents to ask if they're ok to spend time with the children, cook then meals, take them places.....she just heads off out every day with a man she's just met, trying to solve a mystery with a few other new acquaintances, from dawn to dusk.
The should all be in prison for interfering with murder scenes too
Absolutely ridiculous outbursts of swearing and potty talk that added nothing to the story
It could've been a really intersting story, so much better written.

very light reading
To me this was like a Sunday night family drama. A bit 'ploddy', not difficult, no major surprises and not exciting. I won't be reading the rest of the series. There's a lot of unnecessary info and suddenly a character will 'drop in' a whole raft of previously unknown info which might move the plot on but is a bit draining. The reader is trying to solve the clues without the full story then suddenly 'bam' here's some extra information. I did finish it but won't be recommending I'm afraid.
