Summary

From the author of The Sisters - one of the best-selling debuts of 2015 - comes a tense psychological thriller ripped straight from the headlines....

Twenty years ago 21-year-old Sophie Collier vanished one night. She left nothing behind but a trainer on the old pier - and a hole in the heart of her best friend, Francesca. Now a body's been found. And Francesca's drawn back to the seaside town she's tried to forget.

Perhaps the truth of what happened to Sophie will finally come out. Yet Francesca is beginning to wish she hadn't returned. Everywhere she turns are ghosts from her past. The same old faces and familiar haunts of her youth. But if someone knows what really happened to Sophie that night then now's the time to find out - isn't it?

Except sometimes discovering the truth can cost you everything you hold dear - your family, your sanity and even your life....

Gripping and twisting all the way, leaving you hungry to read on. First time reading by this author and will read others.

What a great book

Not sure what all the criticisms are all about. The readers were both fab and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.

Contrived

I did not really like this story. It was well read but I did not warm to the characters and the story line was somewhat forced. An interesting idea but not very engaging. Disappointed.

Excellent

First time reading / listening with this author , and wow what a gripping read , the narrator was great some narrators voice accents etc can ruin a good story . I gave the narrator 5 stars . The story line started fast and didn’t really slow down every page had me thinking … there was so many different scenarios that could have panned out , you just didn’t know which road the author was going to go down . The characters were all likeable , and realist which I find adds to a good book . I couldn’t find anything to complain about at all . I can honestly say it was a great read and I’m looking at downloading another by the same author .

Compelling read

Couldn’t get enough of this book. Just when you thought you knew what had happened something else did. Brilliant read. Finished this book very quickly.

Excellent

I really enjoyed this. I kept changing my mind throughout the book over ‘who dunnit’ but the actual ending I had never guessed! Very well narrated, I like having two different narrators for the two different first person dialogues.

Claire Douglas seems very clever at portraying the narcissistic personality - I wonder if she has her own experience of someone in her life?

Another great thriller

Great author. Easy to listen to. Gripping story - keeps on unravelling throughout! Twists and turns as it gets going.

Disappointed

Hyped up a bit too much. Women pretending to be men doesn't work. Story was quite obvious.

Wow!

Well, I didn't expect that. Found myself on edge of seat, more than once. Well worth a listen. but don't want to reveal what might be any spoilers. Couldn't give 41/2 stars, so awarded only 4, not sure if it's really a full five and I'm just getting meaner with age or maybe you could put me right on that point?
