About this listen
But Amelia, accompanied by her quixotic husband Emerson and Ramses, their elusive son, feels an awful, nameless foreboding as she stands upon the decks of the ship that bears them across waters of the Mediterranean towards Egypt.
Perhaps it has something to do with what transpired the last time they investigated the ruins of the Black Pyramid. On that infamous occasion they came face-to-face with Sethos, that chameleon-like villain otherwise known as The Master Criminal. While successful in depriving this "genius of crime" of his ill-gotten treasure, they were thwarted in their attempts to capture him. He escaped into the night like a wily serpent, revenge embroidered upon his countenance.
It is inevitable that The Master Criminal should come face-to-face with the inimitable Amelia Peabody again, but this time it is not antiquities he is after, but Amelia herself!

Great escapism - the reader is wonderful
I find all Peters’ books excellent, this introduction to Seth’s is particularly satisfying. Particularly when you know what happens later in the series.

Just Brilliant
An excellent story, with some real comedy. So much better than many of other similar works.
The reader is positively five stars. The different characters are wonderfully portrayed.

Thoroughly enjoyable Egyptology whodunnit romp
Elizabeth Peters' series of Egyptology/Whodunnit romps, starring the indomitable Amelia Peabody, have long been a favourite of mine... so when browsing for an audible title, was pleased to see many of these now available.
If you like a whodunit, have an interest in (or would like to find out a little about) Egyptology, like mild humour and enjoy a book without swearwords or sex scenes - these are great. Maybe not life-changing literary works, but highly 'enjoyable reads' (or listens). I first came across one of these (7 or 8 in the series?) when I grabbed it at an airport and then I had to read all the prior volumes when I got home and have been hooked ever since, especially as an undemanding holiday read.
In the past, have found some Audible books a let-down, due to poor narration - but Barbara Rosenblat is wonderful, Amelia sounds just as I'd imagined her, plus Barbara is cleverly able to bring to life a whole range range of characters, male and female, young and old, English, Egyptian and others.
And due to Ms Peters eschewing the use foul language ("Good Gad!" is about as bad as it gets!) and graphic sex, you can listen to these 'in public' with out fear of offending anyone - when listening to this while gardening this summer, my 80 year old neighbour called over the fence to ask (a) could I turn the volume up, she was following the story, too and (b) what was it, she was really enjoying it...another convert!

Another Thrilling Installment!
I really enjoyed listening to this further adventure of Peabody and Emerson (and Ramses, of course!); and as ever, Barbara Rosenblat's narration and voice characterisations are exemplary.
