Summary

Lady Constance Keeble, sister of Lord Emsworth of Blandings Castle, has both an imperious manner and a valuable diamond necklace.

The precarious peace of Blandings is shattered when her necklace becomes the object of dark plottings, for within the castle lurk some well connected jewel thieves - among them the Honourable Freddie Threepwood, Lord Emsworth's younger son, who wants the reward money to set up a bookmaking business.

Psmith, the elegant socialist, is also after it for his newly married chum Mike. And on patrol with the impossible task of bringing management to Blandings is the Efficient Baxter, whose strivings for order lead to a memorable encounter with the castle flowerpots.

Will peace ever return to Blandings Castle...?

Brilliant story but terrible recording

Loved it, I've always been a fan of PG Wodehouse and Jonathan Cecil delivers it well. Although the recording is a little fuzzy at times so listening in the car was difficult.

Another superb performance

A real treat for PSmith and blending a fans. Jonathan Cecil performs all characters brilliantly making this a real pleasure to listen to.

The only disappointment is Wodehouse didn't write any more with PSmith as secretary.

Good story if you can get over poor recording

Poor and inconsistent quality recording but great story! The story is, if I may say so, better than Jeeves & Wooster.

Wodehouse vividly brought to life

I greatly enjoyed the characterisation of the different parts.

The narration is most pleasing to the ear.

The plot lends itself well to being listened to.

Classic Wodehouse

This was the second time that I had read this classic. Beautifully written and with some really funny set pieces.

If you like the work of PG Wodehouse, then this is not to be missed. Wonderful narration, as always.

Jonathan Cecil makes Wodehouse even more enjoyable

Jonathan Cecil does such an excellent job in reading Wodehouse in his rendition of each of characters. Very enjoyable!

A classic Wodehouse

This is a tale of life at Blandings Castle, the home of Lord Emsworth, short-sighted peer, and a true lover of flowers. Psmith is the hero, a perfect gentleman, and his affection for his own voice and the way he tends to 'run on' is most amusingly told. The story encompasses the plans of various parties to steal Aunt Constance's diamond necklace, but of course there is romance, villainy, and Wodehouse's usual masterly turn of phrase along the way. All the threads are gathered perfectly in the obligatory happy ending.

The reading is of course expertly done by Jonathan Cecil, but as with other titles I've listened to, the original cassette tape quality shows through in one or two places.
