Summary
The vivid, fast-paced account of the siege of Khe Sanh told through the eyes of the men who lived it.
For seventy-seven days in 1968, amid fears that America faced its own disastrous Dien Bien Phu, six thousand US Marines held off thirty thousand North Vietnamese Army regulars at the remote mountain stronghold called Khe Sanh. It was the biggest battle of the Vietnam War, with sharp ground engagements, devastating artillery duels, and massive US air strikes. After several weeks of heroic defense, the besieged Americans struck back in a series of bold assaults, and the North Vietnamese withdrew with heavy losses.
Last Stand at Khe Sanh is the vivid, fast-paced account of the dramatic confrontation as experienced by the men who were there: Marine riflemen and grenadiers, artillery and air observers, platoon leaders and company commanders, Navy corpsmen and helicopter pilots, and a plucky band of US Army Special Forces. Based on extensive archival research and more than one hundred interviews with participants, Last Stand at Khe Sanh captures the courage and camaraderie of the defenders and delivers the fullest account yet of this epic battle.

Very good narrative introducing the war all the the way down from decisions of politicans to the effects of policies for the infantryman on the field. I've enjoyed listening to this more than watching any war movie since saving private Ryan.

How should history be remembered?
Gregg Jones has clearly done the most incredible research for this book and it is a beautiful epitaph for so many lives cut short. The events at Khe Sanh play out as much through the individuals involved as the military actions. This did not initally gel, but as I review reading Gregg’s hard work I greatly admire this approach and what does indeed matter is the people involved and their humanity.

Sad but riveting!
What an excellent true story of The U.S. Marines' and The North Vietnamese's battles for Khe Sahn. Alot of interesting and intimate portraits of the soldiers who fought there and how they coped during this time. Anyone interested in the USMC or the Vietnam war, will enjoy this book..
Good job by the narrator too.

Excellent
A well researched, thoughtful and engaging account of this major battle. Well narrated but the American way of pronouncing all the syllables of Vietnam and Vietnamese may become annoying for British listeners.

Very Well Researched and Written Book
Good to listen to book which flows well with compelling content. My only criticism is the narrator's pronunciation of "Vietnamese". It comes out as "Viet-NAM-eaze which grates quite a bit and sounds like a strange cleaning product/ constipation medicine.
