Complex, exciting, and fast-paced!

Last Heir of the North is the 5th part of JC Kang's Scions of the Black Lotus, and the plot is thickening, to say the least.

Here, Jie and the rest are basically trying to figure out what is going on and who is behind it all. Added to this is unravelling Lilian's past and what made her betray the clan. It is all coming together, and you can literally see how this is about to come to a conclusion of epic proportions.

Last Heir of the North is a complex, multi-layered story, but also exciting and fast-paced.
There is some minor smut that was tastefully done. I'll admit, the many jumps between past and present had me a tad confused at times, but I quickly got over myself. It was, in fact, expertly done and a great way to show Lilian's past.

Now, onto the last part! I can't wait!

A complex weaving of events and superbly written

This is the 5th novella in JC Kang's Legends of Tivara novellas and is up there with the 1st novella in terms of quality, story, and characters.

I've listened to them all so far (the narrator has done a fantastic job), and books 2-4 were good, but never reached the lofty heights of book 1. The events taking place just seemed a bit like side quests, despite the fact that they were necessary in adding vital bits of information into the larger mystery and plot being explored within the novellas. Book 5 brings all the events of books 1-4 together in a very satisfying way.

The narrative is split between past and present, which gives us some nice insight into the villain of book 1, and the driving force behind all the events in all the books. JC Kang weaves a complex tale with this one, but handles it superbly. And there's still 1 novella left. I can't wait to experience the thrilling conclusion.

4 stars and well earned.
