About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

A recipe for disaster.

When chef Paul Delamare agrees to help his old friend Christian by teaching at an exclusive residential cookery school in Belgravia, the only thing he expects his students to murder is his taste buds. But on the first night, the unthinkable happens: someone turns up dead...

The school rests on a knife-edge.

Could one of his students be the killer? Or Rose - the owner of the school, a woman with secrets and a murky past? The police are convinced Paul is the culprit. After all, he's good with a blade, was first on the scene - and everyone knows what chefs are really like.

It all boils down to murder.

The students are sharpening their knives and if Paul can't solve the mystery fast - as well as teach them how to make a perfect hollandaise sauce - he'll be next to get the chop.

very good, like the cooking analogies

ending could have been a little more thought out, all ends tied up quick, but still a good listen!

Consumed with relish!

I really enjoyed this fun murderous romp, enhanced by Sebastian Humphreys brilliant narration. Looking forward to a second helping but whilst waiting for Murrin to cook up a second batch, I’ll happily listen to anything Humphreys has narrated. A double win!

Brilliant, funny book

This was a great book and one of the most enjoyable murder mysteries I have read this year. It didn't have the doom and gloom that so many murder-centric books have and instead had good characters, good pacing and a good plot.

It won't win any book prizes but I would thoroughly recommend this. The narration was great too.

A good easy listening mystery tail

I’m a foodie and a book lover so this ticked both of them. I am new to crime books with this only being my 3rd but I really enjoyed this. Nothing too over the top (hence the easy listening), but a good amount of twists.

Cheffing murder romp

My late husband was a chef for 45 years. I enjoyed all the food and culinary skill references woven into a great whodunnit. Entertaining! Look forward to book 2!

A bit of an old fashioned who dunnit!

Not sure I enjoyed the narrator’s voice, but a bit of a mystery Agatha Christie with colourful characters and a good old fashioned twist. I learned a few bits about cooking too. An easy fun read.

Pleasantly surprised

I kept seeing this advertised to me and to be honest, the title didn’t appeal so I overlooked it. I managed to download an incredibly disappointing book so came back to this and I’m so glad I did! Some of the voices are a little OTT but overall it was fantastic. Really captured me and I will definitely be reading more in what will no doubt be a successful series. I’d recommend it for fans of Richard Osman - similar humour and relatively cosy

Crime and Cookery

Easy to listen to. The clues were all there - once you knew! I did find the police rather irritating though. Also some handy kitchen tips and recipes. It would be helpful if it came with a pdf of the recipes.

The mystery

Good story. Police bit weak. Characters well structured reader was good but should avoid; or practice accents
