Since the Covenant was declared, the region has existed in peace, until violence explodes as slavers descend upon the village to capture young men to press as soldiers for Sandura.
Declan must escape, to take his priceless knowledge to Baron Daylon Dumarch, ruler of Marquensas, perhaps the only man who can defeat Lodavico of Sandura, who has now allied himself with the fanatical Church of the One, which is marching across the continent, imposing its extreme form of religion upon the population and burning unbelievers as they go.

amazing cast
loved mostly everything about the book tbh, althought towards the end it felt like Haatu's character changed too drastically, almost felt like a different character altogether. Also glad the Narrator settled into the reading cause at the beginning he sounded like the book was an animal planet documentary

I love REFeist books, have read/listened to them all, the potential for a sweeping epic is great here, but please, the narration was not good.

A new Feist story
Wow well I’ve read and listened to all books by the man the Legend Feist. I’ve more or less grown up alongside pug,Thomas, and the whole world of Midkemia, as well as the world of Kelewan. When I found out he had written a new set of stories I went straight out and bought the books and as soon as I could the audible. I love the narrator a nice change from Peter Joyce who did an amazing job with the full works. As in previous books I was gripped from page one. This new story is darker and grittier but in my opinion some of his best work. The narrator brings each character to life for you and if your like me you quickly journey with the characters as a silent observer. If your a fan of Feists work you’ll love this new work.

Great story, wonderful characterisation
The traits of the main characters makes each of them memorable and interesting, I care what happens to each. Even those who are not long in the game are missed.
The story moves along at a good pace, details are explained when necessary. All in all a jolly good listen, now I’m off to get the next one the series.

An excellent start to a new series
Been a fan of the fantastic Mr Feist since I was a child. I have put off reading this because I wanted to enjoy the trilogy when it was complete. I was a little unsure this would be as good as his main series that has been my favourite long work of fiction longer than I can remember. My fears were unfounded. This story is captivating and having a new world to work his craft in has given Ray an excellent opportunity to spin some fresh tales. His characters are captivating as ever, this book has set the stage I can't wait to see how events play out in book 2 and 3. Very good narration too.

awsome!
A brand new story from a great author, this is thoroughly engaging from start to finish. The narrator is very good and adds substance to the characters. This seemed to finish far too soon but more likely this was due to me being unable to stop listening. Cant wait until next book.

Really good. The book starts off past the prologue with enough mystery to keep you interested and the storytelling ability to solve them in a spectacular way. Another!
