Enjoyable but a bit basic.
The second instalment is just as fun as the first however the narrator on this book is nowhere near as good and the first book. Very hammy in its delivery. Especially with mispronounced words throughout the book. Namely livery as live-ary and heard as hear-d. Many more too it shouldn’t make a difference I know but each time I hear him say things wrong I can’t help but mentally correct him and then sometimes have to rewind as I’ve missed something.
The story itself is good if a little basic maybe targeting teens/young adults. But to listen to whilst working it’s fine. But the hammy reading does make it feel more like a child’s book.

Great story and narration
Thoroughly enjoying this series; can’t wait to start next book to see what Gerald Warbow and his followers get up to next! Love hearing about the renowned English Archers and really like that Gerald himself doesn’t actually like Lord Edward and has a healthy contempt for the aristocracy/nobility!
Unlike a previous listener I did not find a problem with the narrator. In fact I think he did a decent job. His being Welsh complements the story and I don’t agree that he mispronounces any words! He’s Welsh-that’s how they speak! Get over it & lets enjoy a gripping story!

Decent Book, Poor Narration
Nice follow on but the change in narrator is jarring, he loses the tone and tempo and there is background recording hum when narration is playing. The plot is pure Griff Hosker, if you like his Hawkwood, Anarchy or Kings Bodyguard Series you'll like this, you also get to revel in the historical detail that Hosker is always bringing to life. I've always appreciated the strong moral code that Hosker hero's portray and there's no lack of that here. Obviously there is significant poetic licence at play here and the change in relations between the characters from book to book can get a little annoying, but I'll be reading listening to all of the series for sure.

Performance?
A good story however again we have to listen to a narrator who does not ensure his emphasis and pronunciation is right so many words given his own interpretation of a word it became annoying?
The producers and editors must take responsibility for this as this is not the only audio I’ve purchased that has been distracted from by this unnecessarily errors

poor narration, good story.
Good story poorly narrated. Robotic, lacking emphasis, like it is being read for the first time. a great shame as I am a hosksr fan. Will not be finishing this series.

Good story which moved on quite quickly
A good story can be ruined by the story teller. This is one such. The narrator was simply aweful and seemed unable to pronounce simple English words like "livery". He attempted some dramatic delivery, but even this sounded flat. Good book spoiled.
