Summary
Killing Comfort is a tactical approach to living your best (uncomfortable) life. It is not a fairy tale or a story for your entertainment. This book is for those ready to roll up their sleeves and put in the work.
We all know that working hard or getting out of our comfort zone is beneficial. But why do some work hard and still end up with marginal results?
If all it takes to truly succeed is consistency and hard work, there would be a lot more millionaires and six-pack abs out there. While consistency and hard work are big pieces of the puzzle, they are not the only pieces.
So, that's where this book comes in. The concept of doing hard things is not new.
But, knowing what hard things to pursue seems to be the real challenge, or what this book refers to as, the intentional pursuit of discomfort. The intentional pursuit of discomfort is not the same thing as simply putting yourself in uncomfortable situations. It's putting yourself in the right uncomfortable situations for exponential growth. It all starts with the simple idea of killing comfort. At its best, comfort has eased you into mediocrity. At its worst, comfort is killing you. It's time we take the fight to comfort.
This book tells the stories of men and women who were just like you. Men and women who struggled with all that life demands, but found a way to push forward, albeit uncomfortably. We will also look to poetry and films, ancient texts, and a massive amount of scientific research. Jerred weaves in stories and experiences as well as data from tens of thousands of people who have utilized the services of his company, End of Three Fitness, over the last decade to paint a picture of what comfort has cost us, and more importantly, what to do next.
Killing Comfort covers three domains:
- The traps: Avoiding the six disguised forms of comfort
- The truth: Learn the process of intentional and purposeful discomfort
- The results: A tactical approach to a better (uncomfortable) life

food for thought
I'm a fan of the GGA podcast and this follows a similar vein, if you enjoy Jerred's style and tone you will also enjoy this.

Unable to listen
I was really looking forward to listening to this book, unfortunately though the narration made it difficult to emerge myself in the story and enjoy it. It was read far too quickly, almost as if the author was on a time limit. Which is odd, given that he placed prominent pauses in areas. It seems he still thinks he's speaking over a military comms network. Interestingly, if played on 0.8x speed, it sounds like it is narrated at a normal pace of speech. Still, for me the experience was tarnished and as a result, I couldn't finish.

Great book but poorly narrated
The book has a strong and useful message but the narration is just not very good, I slowed the speed to 0.85 which helped a little but the delivery is still somewhat monotonous and has some odd inflections at times. Ironically, listening to the book is a small exercise in discomfort in itself.
