About this listen
In Justify This, veteran character actor Nick Searcy takes you through his wide-ranging career, from both sides of the camera as an actor and director, to guest-hosting for Rush Limbaugh, managing a professional wrestler, costarring in the hit show Justified—and somehow continuing to work in Hollywood even after he went to Washington DC on January 6, 2021.
Director of Gosnell: The Trial of America's Biggest Serial Killer and producer/star of the seminal documentary about January 6, Capitol Punishment, Nick's story of following his heart to become a professional actor and following his conscience and faith to stand up for what he believed—even though it might have cost him the career he built—will be an inspiration to you-and make you laugh along the way.
Actor, director, producer, writer, wrestling manager, guest columnist, stand-up comic, filmmaker, and one of the meanest Twitter people ever, Nick Searcy is a unique voice of common sense in today's culture.

The life of a man who never backs down against all odds.
You might know Nick from one of the myriad of films and television shows he has starred in, you might even know him from his hilarious social media presence which is quite unlike that of most other actors. The first half of the book details all the hardwork and struggles it took for Nick to reach the position he is in today. From the very beginning he is uncompromising, never giving up on pursuing what he loves in order to live an easier life. And that's not just acting, Nick is also uncompromising in his love for his family and despite his dreams of acting, his family always came first, a position he sticks to throughout the book.
Nick's personalility really shines in the second half of the book which details how he has had to refocus his resolve into surviving in a world increasingly hostile to him. In an age of celebrity social media idiocy, it's always refreshing to see an actor with the strength of mind to think for themselves and go against the hivemind, refusing to be a drone repeating the current message, whatever that may be. In a world where the hivemind will label someone like Nick with all manner of derogatory names, it is abundantly clear from listening to Nick that he is filled with love for his fellow man, unlike those who label him with insults.
You might agree with some of Nick's views, you might disagree with some; hopefully you will enjoy his book either way. It's evident Nick isn't just one of those vacuous celebrities the media loves to promote. Rather it's clear that he is a deeply principled man who conducts thorough research into a topic before speaking. He is a man who will stand up for what he believes in and he will never compromise in the face of those who treat him with contempt. I didn't know much about Nick behind the camera before listening to this, but hearing his story, I certainly have a lot of respect for him now.
A word of note from a UK listener: In the hyper-politicised world we live in, it would be impossible for Nick to talk about his career without mentioning the political pressure that so heavily hangs over the arts and is abundantly apparent in Hollywood. A good knowlege of the USA political landscape and history (and not just what the mainstream media want you to think) will certainly help your enjoyment, but it isn't essential. International listeners will still learn a lot from a charismatic narrator.
