Summary

Ever wondered what it's like playing Test Cricket?

What really goes on tour and beyond the boundary rope?

Here, for the first time, the world of a pro cricketer is revealed, and the man pulling back the dressing room curtains is one of England's greatest ever cricketers: James 'Jimmy' Anderson. 565 Test Wickets and counting.

Written with Felix White - musician, cricket enthusiast and Anderson's co-host on BBC Five Live's phenomenally popular podcast Tailenders - Jimmy invites us all into his world of cricket. Full of test-match sized stories and 20/20 anecdotes, this book contains everything you've dreamed of asking a top cricketer. And Jimmy provides the answers and insights into this world on and off the pitch.

We tackle the big questions. And, importantly, the small ones:

Do cricketers really watch Countdown instead of the Test whilst waiting to bat?

What are those conversations in the slip cordon?

And what does he eat as a tailender?

Poor narration

only got to chapter 2 and returned book. The narration does not do Jimmy justice and completely fails to bring the dry sense of humour of the man across and instead makes him sound like a whining old man. If you're a big as fan of Jimmy as I am I would suggest reading the hardcopy.

The Making of a Genius

An excellent book. Honest, insightful and well written. A glimpse into the soul of Jimmy, our world beating fast bowler. Interesting stories and reflections along with all that it took to make him the cricketing genius that he is. Don’t miss it.

Phenomenal

Every cricket enthusiast should listen to this book, it's a great insight from a bowlers perspective and perhaps from one of the greatest bowlers of all time. The book is gripping and makes you want to hear more and more of it. Definitely a page turner!

Nice account from a great wicket taker

Really enjoyed this listen as a cricket fan it was a nice insight into the world of bowling rather than a batsman's perspective. Great honesty

Loved it!

Some wonderful stories by an brilliant player from an amazing career, from junior club cricket al the way to being one of the best bowlers this game has ever produced. So many brilliant memories from the Ashes and other matches besides, and lots of great anecdotes on tours and what goes on in the dressing room. I don’t find anything wrong with the narration either, unlike some other reviewers.

very entertaining

I disagree with some reviewers - I loved the narrator - he captured Jimmy very well - well written by Jimmy and Felix White - full of humour and facts. Very good listen - would recommend - go well 🌵

Not bad

Pretty good listen, was just expecting a bit more given how entertaining he can be on tailenders. It is a shame he doesn't read it himself but the narrator doesn't do a bad job. 4 stars
