About this listen

New York Times bestselling author and social media expert Gary Vaynerchuk shares hard-won advice on how to connect with customers and beat the competition. A mash-up of the best elements of Crush It! and The Thank You Economy with a fresh spin, Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook is a blueprint to social media marketing strategies that really works.

When managers and marketers outline their social media strategies, they plan for the "right hook"—their next sale or campaign that's going to knock out the competition. Even companies committed to jabbing—patiently engaging with customers to build the relationships crucial to successful social media campaigns—want to land the punch that will take down their opponent or their customer's resistance in one blow. Right hooks convert traffic to sales and easily show results. Except when they don't.

Thanks to massive change and proliferation in social media platforms, the winning combination of jabs and right hooks is different now. Vaynerchuk shows that while communication is still key, context matters more than ever. It's not just about developing high-quality content, but developing high-quality content perfectly adapted to specific social media platforms and mobile devices—content tailor-made for Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter and Tumblr.

Good book, but audio may not be the best format

Whilst the content is really good (albeit a bit out of date with some of the references now), audio may not be the best format for this unless you’re able to get the images up as the book talks about examples that you can’t actually see without googling it. However, Gary V’s insight is great and I had a bit of nostalgia for some of the platforms that he talks about (RIP Vine).

The general themes and ‘jabs and right hooks’ are great marketing insight and the book flows well. Would recommend regardless of the negatives mentioned above.

Still relevant Even if a bit outdated

It’s a book from 2013 and so some of the content is outdated. The biggest issue is not having access to pictures of the examples Gary describes.

Comprehensive guide to social media

Fantastic coverage of social media and great practical advice 👏. I love the examples he provided of good content marketing and bad content marketing.

Completely out of date.

Irrelevant and quite useless in today’s social media environment. Save your money as there are much better books out there. He kept referring to platforms that are no longer in existence and technology and practices that were outdated many years ago.

The Narrator has no clue!!

Really ruins the experience, getting advice from someone whose just reading it from a book. This narrator has no clue what Gary is advising. It's not spoken with genuine heart. Gary, I thought you'd narrate all your books. Who could do it better than you.

Below average

This book mainly describes how various social media platforms work with some good and bad examples. That’s not how educational material should be structured, in my opinion.

Outdated beyond

When I get books on audible, I try and get the most recent one especially if they are about social media, so when I saw this book was released at the end of March 2023, I thought great, a book with the latest stuff. But it turns out this book was released in 2013!!! And it’s just a rehash of old outdated social medias when Vine was all the hype and google glass was about to be released! Plus it’s not narrated by Gary Vee himself.
At least, you realise that Gary may not be such a visionary after all as some of his predictions were a bit off. Praising Google Plus and seeing it become a household name didn’t age well.
All in all, one word: Avoid!
