About this listen

Whoever said life begins at 40 must have been heavily medicated, drunk, or delusional.

Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good.

But as they say, all good things come to an end. I’d honestly love to know who “they” are and rip them a new one.

One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed-and-breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job - deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there. I think they need my help, but since I don’t speak dead, we’re having a few issues.

To add to the heap of trouble, there’s a new dangerously smokin’ hot lawyer at the firm who won’t stop giving me the eye. My BFF is thrilled with her new frozen face, thanks to her plastic surgeon, her alimony check, and the miracle of Botox. And then there’s the little conundrum that I’m becoming way too attached to my ghostly squatters.... Like Cher, I’d like to turn back time. Now.

No can do.

Whatever. I have wine, good friends, and an industrial sized box of superglue. What could possibly go wrong?

Everything, apparently.

All in all, it’s shaping up to be a wonderful midlife crisis....

Half decent story, but questionable narration

This reminds me slightly of the True Blood series, in the fact that very little seems to happen in a single book, and it’s all rather fluffy around the edges. Strangely though, I want to listen to the next book.

The narrator is hard work. There is a lot of exclaiming for no reason, which doesn’t add to the story, and actually makes it difficult to listen to.

So far, so meh.

Wow!! Way better than I ever imagined.

I cannot believe how much I enjoyed this book. I downloaded based on a recommendation under another book I'd just listened to. Holy hell I can't believe how much of a hilarious but emotional read it was. it was the perfect fit for me in its writing style, character development and plot. I have already ear marked every other title in the series to follow immediately on with both the living and dead.

Fabulous and funny.

The story just flows so well and makes listening enjoyable. I liked the idea of death counsellors and was curious to find out more. Robyn is one of my favourite paranormal writers. This is the first one I have listened too and I loved it.

I laughed so damned hard!

Excellent plot. Excellent narration. Wonderful characters, and hilarious jokes that didn't rely on slapstick humour. For a paranormal romance, the jokes and plot are surprisingly relatable to the many non-magical wtf moments of my 40s. Fair warning though - ends in a cliffie. On to the 2nd book!

I’ve come back for a second review

I’ve had to come back to book 1 to leave another review. I was sceptical although I enjoyed this book very much I decided to get book 2. I can honestly say I’ve loved, laughed out loud and cried my way through the whole series to book 9. I’ve binge listened. Give it a go. Seriously you won’t be disappointed. A bit shouty in places but I just turned the volume down. I wish they’d make a film.

A great story; roll on the rest of the series

What a story! The main character is a wonderful, relatable, paralegal trying to cope with life at 40.
When her whole life gets turned upside down. She can SEE ghosts?! Or has she lost her mind.

Her friends and family are wonderful humans and by the end of the book you’ll want to be friends with them all, and maybe adopt a dog or two.

Jarring Narration at first...

The narrator has a very jarring style and it makes the protagonist sound very aggressive but eventually you stop hearing it and the story comes through. Story is funny and Daisy's friends make the story... Stick with it!

Intriguing storyline, tough to listen to the narrator

Enjoying the story, keeps you engaged and has great characters.
The narrator's style is very off putting. She tends to randomly over express mid sentence, repeatedly.
Almost too enthusiastic.
