About this listen

It Was Always You is a stunning psychological thriller which fans of authors like BA Paris, Clare Mackintosh and Fiona Barton are sure to love.

Morgan isn’t sure about her new boyfriend, Justin. Before the couple go on a romantic weekend trip, Morgan attends an appointment with her neurologist, Dr. Koftura, who has monitored her since an accident she had when she was seven years old. Morgan has a history of sabotaging her romantic relationships, and the doctor is concerned that she is following the same patterns with Justin.

On the day of their trip, Justin runs the car off the road into a tree, killing himself and hurting Morgan. When she awakens in the hospital, Morgan has little time to grapple with this loss before detectives arrive to question her.

As it becomes clear that the detectives believe Morgan is responsible for Justin’s death, Morgan must unlock the secrets of her past to prove her innocence.

Enjoyable listen

The narrator is good and I enjoyed the pace of the story. Personally I found the ending a bit strange but still a good free listen.

It was always captivating

I hadn’t read anything by the author before or listened to the narrator before but got hooked by the blurb and the comparison to other authors I like. I was very wary though whether it could keep up to the high expectations.

It very much surprised me though that it was keeping all the promises and more. The characters were well written and not only was the story up and down to keep the tension and surprises going but even the characters changed in the perception of the bystander: it was never clear cut who were the good guys and who were the villains. They were hunches and gut feelings but still always doubt we’re this was going or end up with. Twists and turns but not all in the story, many occurred in my head as I couldn’t make my mind up.

I really enjoyed the rollercoaster ride from start to finish and in between (no parts tempted me to skip as it was clear you needed it all) and can really recommend it.

The narration was good and I’m looking for other books from the same author or read by the same narrator.

Awful.

The narrator is good, not great. The story is far fetched, boring and just ridiculous. I had 30 minutes to go and didn’t bother with the ending.

Ridiculous ending!

An ok book for a freebie and I was intrigued throughout. I did miss an hour but could still follow. But the ending was just weird! Just not really believable so it lets the story down. I liked the narration.
