About this listen

Three more adventures for everyone's favourite transtemporal Adventuress and her long-suffering travelling companion, Panda.

'The Iris Wildthyme Appreciation Society'. Written by Cavan Scott. Panda isn't happy. One minute he's due to be crowned an intergalactic hero, with concubines galore, and the next Iris is dragging him to the planet Trull, the 42nd-century equivalent of Milton Keynes. As Iris becomes the hottest celeb in the galaxy, little do they know that everyone on Trull is about to die....

'Iris Rides Out'. Written by Guy Adams. Thomas Carnacki, the famed Edwardian Ghost Finder, faces his most terrifying challenge yet. Not only must he rid Mocata Grange of hideous apparitions and rampaging pig-monsters, he must also avoid the advances of that hellcat Iris Wildthyme. Will any of them get through the night alive?

'Midwinter Murders'. Written by George Mann. People are dropping like flies in the Warwickshire village of Midwinter Leys, and the number one suspect is Iris Wildthyme. Can Inspector Nettles and Sergeant Spartan find the real culprit before more loveable locals are murdered in increasingly bizarre ways? And will Panda ever get his pork pie?

Directed by Gary Russell.

Iris rides high.

Usual off road trip with Iris and panda in top form, iris rides out being one of my favorite capers ever, witty and urbane as the black and white familiar himself, great idea to add Carnacki and a mouldy aristocrat to the mix.

Ruined by music, too loud + intrusive

Iris Wildthyme is a gin swigging, transtemporal adventuress, who travels with side-kick Panda on her double decker bus. There’s three madcap adventures, each 1-hour long.

I’ve previously listened to other Iris stories and enjoyed them, but found the music too loud and intrusive so was distracted from the dialogue. Also both Iris and Panda, who are played by Katy Manning and David Benson, are big bold characters and they are fantastic, but their performances highlight deficiencies in other actors/characters.

Also in the last story the vocal recording of Ellie March felt different to the other characters so when she conversed with others it sounded a bit odd. And Sergeant Spartan starting most sentences with Y’awl, Y’awl, Y’awl….. it got annoying.

I love wacky, zany stories so will try more Iris Wildthyme, but am sad this didn’t put a smile on my face as I’d hope it would.
