Summary

Miguel de Ruyter is a man with a past.

Fleeing the 'wolves'—the xenocidal alien machines known as Inhibitors—he has protected his family and community from attack for 40 years, sheltering in the caves of an airless, battered world called Michaelmas. The slightest hint of human activity could draw the wolves to their home, to destroy everything...utterly. Which is how Miguel finds himself on a one-way mission with his own destructive mandate: to eliminate a passing ship, before it can bring unwanted attention down on them.

Only something goes wrong.

There's a lone survivor.

And she knows far more about Miguel than she's letting on....

Ranging from the depths of space to the deeps of Pattern Juggler waters, from nervous, isolated communities to the ruins of empire, this is a stealthy space opera from an author at the top of his game.

As good as Revelation Space... possibly better!

I have been in love with the Revelation Space universe and all the novels for many years. Inhibitor Phase is a welcome return to that setting and I love it just as much as I did the original trilogy. I also like how it acts as a standalone novel, with the details of the previous novels scattered as easter eggs for those in the know. John Lee is the best narrator and brings Reynolds' characters alive. If you enjoyed Revelation Space please read this.

another riveting tale

Totally, brilliantly imagined. Such a reliable author whose imagining is on par with the greats like Clive Barker and S King.

inhibitor Phase

Found it a struggle to finish didn't root for the characters enough. I'm a bit fed up of John Lee posh female voice though it's obviously liked in the ether.

Alastair Reynolds on top form

This is a magnificent addition and return to the Revelation Space universe, with a really well crafted story. I didn’t want to stop listening!

Integrated standalone journey

Helps to have read the other novels set in the universe conjured up by Mr Reynolds but not essential. Excellent listen for those long dog walks.

Good story, poor delivery

I enjoyed the story but it was quite an effort to make it through the 19hrs with the staccato delivery. I’m not sure if it was an affected delivery or if it was just the narrator’s normal method but I found it troubling. Still - I enjoy a good Alastair Reynolds.

The Saga continues and Humanity persists

Great book in the long line of the Revelation but with some.of the previous intensity lacking, and the persuasive storytelling meandering wordily but without substance and finally, disappointingly, fading out.
It could be the beginning of a great continuance in the saga, or perhaps time to finally say 'goodbye' and move on into a new creation.
I look forward to new pastures...... and perhaps reading the section of chapter six that was somehow left out of this recording !!! GET IT SORTED AUDIBLE!

At last!

I love the revelation space universe, and have been hoping that there would be a continuation of the main series of stories. Well here it is! It is everything I could have hoped for. I have just finished it and there is a tear in my eye. You won’t be disappointed.

John Lee doors a terrific job of rendering a worthy end to Revelation Space. Splendid!

Hard work with this one.

Definitely the weakest of the Revelation Space series. Probably just me but I really struggled to like the characters. The characters struggled to like each other. The characters struggled to like themselves. My nearest comparison of a disappointing book in an excellent series is “The Sea Watch” in Tchaikovski’s “Shadows of the Apt”. The author is obviously excellent and the narration is brilliant (which helps) but for some reason this book left me cold. Almost certainly a blip.
I did, for the sake of completism, finish it. I am sure future works will be more to my taste.
