About this listen
What started as a flu outbreak on a military base proves deadlier than Ebola and more contagious than the Spanish Flu. Sympatico Syndrome is unlike anything the world has ever seen. Victims' behavior is changing to accommodate the rapid spread of the virus.
Former Navy epidemiologist Cole Evans is well aware of the rare, infectious diseases the military studies. He also knows, first-hand, the government's stance on sharing information with the public, so if the media has already learned about the disease, then it's far too late to contain the outbreak.
Cole's only chance to save his family is to establish a safe haven. Isolated, hard to reach, and with enough space for his brother's family as well, he has the perfect location - if only they can all reach it before they're infected.

Yeah..it was ok
(sigh)…I mean……ok I really wanted this book to be excellent. I read the reviews, and saw the adverts on social media. And this is my favourite genre of books, so I was excited to start it.
But it just couldn’t quite do it. Firstly the narrator was so wooden! He tried to make it exciting, but he sounded like he was standing in front of his English class reading from the book. It was also really hard to follow along at times. There are jumps in the narrative, and he didn’t quite make them obvious, so it was a bit confusing. Like the character would be driving a boat on a lake in a storm, and next they’re on a horse…
Secondly, the language and script for the characters was a little unrealistic and wooden. At times I nearly gave up it was that bad.
Good points, I liked the research Mr McDonald has put into the story. It was fun listening to the characters problem solve. And I was glad it had a happy ending.
Do I use a credit on the next book..?

Same old, same old
Well written? Maybe but very formulaic, no ‘peril’ involved when you give the characters an easy ‘out’ (I won’t spoil it but you will see what I mean)
Narration is dire, a monosyllabic drone that really brings the story down.
Shame, I wanted to hear the series.

This book and the series is a nice change from other end of world books this is a story about people and what they would do, there isn’t some crazy group which they have to kill to maintain survival
