An important story about accepting trans people
I have enjoyed listening to Amanda's story of acceptance and love. Listening to this has given me more information about being trans.

Powerful coming of age story. Brilliantly narrated
Open & overt sexism, racism & homophobia have for the most part [ on an individual level at least ] become socially unacceptable in progressive societies. But unfortunately to our shame the same cannot be said for transphobia however whilst not ignoring this fact and never becoming preachy - author Meredith Russo needs to be highly commended for expertly weaving a very bright & uplifting teenage coming of age story.
We see through Amanda's eyes as she navigates life in a body that does not reflect who she really is inside. Samia Mounts energetically narrates managing to distinguish & capture all the different characters leaving you eagerly waiting for what happens next at the end of every chapter. It would make a very entertaining movie.
An important & throughly engaging production I highly recommend to all, one the best I have heard on audible so far !

I loved it
At first the accent used by Ms Mounts was a surprise but it makes the story more real since it matches the area of USA where the story is set. Her performance is fantastic and she portrays all the characters very well. 5 stars for her performance.
The story is lovely, sweet and although as the author admits it's a little easier for Amanda than many Trans people experience, this doesn't take away anything from the story IMO. I really encourage everyone to listen to this story whether they be Trans, CIS, gay, straight, bi, pan or however they self identify.
The story is one of hope, love, personal growth and acceptance for multiple characters, not just Amanda.
Finally I absolutely loved the message from the author at the end. She obviously speaks from experience and she does an excellent job of trying to reach out to those who are feeling desperate, suicidal and worthless and her appeal is so moving I was brought to tears.

Beautiful book.
This book left me crying in places it was so beautiful. It opened my eyes to some of the struggles trans people go through. Everyone deserves love & we’re all beautiful in our own way. Love is love xx

An engaging and meaningful coming of age story.
The story of Amanda is one of fear and growth. It deals with many of the challenges faced by trans youths, focussing primarily on the difficulties of living stealth. It handles the subjects carefully and respectfully, telling a tale that will pull at your heartstrings over and over.
I laughed, I cried and I learned. At the end of the day, what more could you want from a book?

Excellent story but needs a content warning
The story starts off discussion with discussion of suicide, it's all well done but if you have a history it can be a shock.

A very important book
I absolutely adored this book! I loved how well the author wrote about gender identity and sexuality in such a way that I could have a connection to the characters although I was not going through the same things as them. I think that this a very important book to read, or listen to, especially young people such as myself. I felt like I learned so much from this book yet in such a way that wasn't boring or preachy, just a well written story in the voice of a trans character. If this book was read and enjoyed by more people then I feel like that could really help with the way we view trans people or anyone who is different to ourselves. Also, I love that audible included the message from the author at the end as it was a very nice touch and helpful to anyone who has enjoyed this book or is going through the same struggles as the characters in this story. To conclude, I utterly adored this story and its characters but I would live to know what happens next with Amanda and Grant! Sequel please! - Megan age 14

Just Wow...
this book was just amazing. so believable and emotional. other than the speed of her transition but I understand the authors reasoning for that. the struggles the fears and thoughts of Amanda are scarily relatable. Amanda may be a fictional person but the story is so well done I found my self genuinely happy for her in parts and cried my eyes out in others. I finished the book in one sitting from start to finish staying up past 4am because I could put it down I had to finish it and find out what happened. a must listen. and I hope that the none trans listeners take an understanding of how hard it is to be trans, even when everything is going great your always at war with your own thoughts. questioning everything like it cane be good. its secretly bad you just don't know it yet. that was not a liberty in this book that was very real. just wow... thank you Author.
