About this listen
Hunt the Bismarck tells the story of Operation Rheinübung, the Atlantic sortie of the Nazi Germany's largest battleship in May 1941.
Bismarck entered service in the summer of 1940. She was well-armed, with eight 15-inch guns as well as a powerful array of lighter weapons, while her armored protection earned her the reputation of being unsinkable. This claim was finally put to the test in May 1941, when she sortied into the Atlantic and fought the legendary battle of the Denmark Strait, destroying HMS Hood, the pride of the Royal Navy. Bismarck was now loose in the North Atlantic. However, damage sustained in the battle limited her ability to roam at will, while the Royal Navy deployed the Home Fleet to revenge the Hood. The stage was set for the greatest chase story in the history of naval warfare.
Drawing on a wealth of first-hand accounts, and intertwining extensive research into a fast-paced narrative, this is the most accurate account of Bismarck's epic voyage ever produced.

Gripping
I have listened twice and I was just as gripped the second time. When the swordfish swung in to attack, it was like being there.
Well done Angus and Nigel.

History at it most interesting.
Very interesting and fills in background to the story. It explains how events are linked in the Battle of the Atlantic.

Accurate and informative from start to finish
No dislike although the preamble went on a bit, it did give a good background.

Fantastic
Hunt the Bismarck was one of the very best books I've listened to since joining Audible in 2021. I thought the writing was brilliant and so was the narration. It's very rare for me to listen to a book twice but this book about the Bismarck will definitely join that short list! It's a 10 star book in a 5 star World!

Well written, irritating narration
An excellent and well narrated book. However, the narrator's constant and inconsistent use of accents for every foreign proper noun or title is a major irritant. On occasion, it becomes ludicrous, e.g. German titles and French cities in a single sentence (while 'Paris' and other proper nouns are pronounced without any accent).

Loved this
Very well written and dictated narrative. Lots of detail but not overly technical meaning it’s not boring! Really enjoyed this story which really covered the full Hood/Bismark battle.

A riveting account.
I would highly recommend this book. Reads like a thriller and it is exciting but harrowing at the same time. The loss of life, on both sides, is one of the most shocking parts of this famous battle and pursuit.

Stunningly good account of a well-known story
Do we need another account of the hunt for Bismark? Angus Konstam says "Yes" and, having listened to his riveting account, I have to agree. Not only does he tell the story extremely well - I could barely bring myself to stop listening - he puts the story in context and provides just the right level of naval technical detail to make the decisions and dilemmas faced by the main protagonists comprehensible to a landlubber like me. Really enjoyed it!
