About this listen
Deputy Roman Charsguard survived Afghanistan where he lost his best friend - his K-9 handler James. Roman was a military dog until two years ago when he developed the ability to shift into a human. It's not easy to learn how to be a man. He found a place to live in Mad Creek, a haven for the secret world of dog shifters. Finding a reason to live has been harder. That is, until a certain human walks into the Mad Creek Sheriff's office and starts making trouble.
Matt Barclay has the worst luck. First he was shot in a SWAT drug raid, then he was sent as DEA investigator to Mad Creek, a little town in the California Mountains. Matt's job is to keep a lookout for illegal drug farms, but nobody in the town wants him there. And then there's Roman, Matt's erstwhile baby-sitter. He's the hottest guy Matt's ever seen, even if he is a bit peculiar. If this job doesn't kill Matt, sexual frustration just might.
The town is counting on Roman to prevent Matt from learning about dog shifters, Matt's counting on Roman to be his work partner and tell him the truth, and Roman's trying to navigate love, sex, and a whole lot of messy human emotions. Who knew it was so complicated to walk like a man?

If you don't love this you must be a dog hater....or a cat person
Title should be enough i think.....I LOVE this series!!!! Now i'm off to book 3.
I laughed.
I cried.
I wanted to hit/kill some of the characters *ahum the military dad*. That was a bit of a cliff hanger but i have no good feelings for him so screw him.
The ending is just too sweet. I LOVE ROMAN SO MUCH!!! I need a Roman in my life ;.;

Wonderfully funny story....with some really touching scenes too.
Didn't enjoy book 1 of the series very much, so was a little wary of this one, but I needn't have been worried. Matthew's narration was outstanding, some parts of the story were laugh out loud funny, especially Lance's excruciating awkwardness at giving Roman advice on sexual matters **snort**, dogs peeing (in human form) on lampposts and Matt wondering what the hell he'd gotten himself into, the dog films at the fleapit of a cinema in town and the inhabitants all trying to keep Matt in view, but without looking suspicious...and failing miserably. I really loved Matthew's warm interpretation of Roman, and the struggles he'd had with suddenly becoming a 'Quickened' and human after the death of his Army K-9 human partner James in Afghanistan, and Roman's own injury in the same incident. I also loved that he struggled with himself when he knew he was falling in love with Matt but couldn't risk explaining what he was for fear of exposing everyone else in Mad Creek and did the honourable thing...said nothing, and buried his pain and anguish. I absolutely <3 Roman to bits!!

Cheesy
I enjoyed the first book in this series but this second book will be my last. The writing came across as very childish and I cringed at dodgy dialogue too many times for comfort. I wondered who this book was aimed at. Its like YA with MM mixed in... with graphic sex descriptions. It was an uncomfortable mix.
The narrator was very good though.

Doggy Style
Have enjoyed this writer and narrator so didn't over think the scenario of dog shifters too much. This is my first "shifters" book. The story was funny as the hound characteristics were played down by the town residents so they could live in the modern normal world without conflict or exposure, however I stopped this book after the MCs have their mm interaction straight after the dog shifts to be a man. I couldn't get past the imagery and implication of it. It left a strange taste in my mouth and made me uncomfortable. I did not finish the book.
