About this listen

A deeply personal exploration of love in all its forms from a feminist icon and best-selling author of Fight Like a Girl and Boys Will Be Boys.

There is love in this place, just like there is love everywhere we care to look for it. There is beauty and there is hope and there is a boy and there is a mother and there is the past and there is the future but most importantly there is the now and everything that exists between them that has got them from one moment to the next. The now is where we find the golden glow where, for the briefest of moments, the sky rips open and we see what it is we are made of.

Tell me a story, he asked me.

And so I began.

Clementine Ford is a person who has loved deeply, strangely and with curiosity. She is fascinated by love and how it makes its home in our hearts and believes that the way we continue to surrender ourselves to love is an act of great faith and bravery.

This tender and lyrical memoir explores love in its many forms, through Clementine's own experiences. With clear eyes and an open heart, she writes about losing her adored mother far too young, about the pain and confusion of first love - both platonic and romantic - and the joy and heartache of adult love. She writes movingly about the transcendent and transformative journey to motherhood and the similarly monumental path to self-love. 'We love as children, as friends, as parents and, yes, sometimes as sexual beings, and none of it is more important than the other because all of it shows us who we are.'

How We Love is heartfelt, funny, confessional, revelatory, compassionate - and essential listening. It shows us to ourselves in moments of unwavering truth and undeniable joy.

Clementine Ford is a writer, broadcaster and feminist community builder living in Naarm/Melbourne. She is the best-selling author of the feminist manifestos Fight Like a Girl and Boys Will Be Boys, which have also been published to great acclaim in the UK and the US. In 2017, she won the Matt Richell Award for Best New Writer of the Year at the ABIAs.

A heartfelt book

I related to this book so much. The way Clementine explains her relationship with her son's father. The absolute shock to the system of becoming a mother and the all encompassing unconditional love for a child. Bravo 👏 👏 👏

speechless!

I loved this book! I could relate to it so well, as a woman, wife, mother... It will definitely explain some things you've been wondering about and leave you with some questions too. I appreciate the raw honesty of it♥️ And of course, the fact that she narrated it too is amazing, I love to listen to her voice. Just beautiful!!!

It was ok!

It passed the time and was an easy listen but nothing new or interesting I hadn’t heard from other people’s experiences. I found Rosie Wilby and Helen Russells books much more entertaining and thought-provoking.

Fantastic

Wow! A fantastic insight into someone’s life. Not just anyone but someone whose words are really important to me, someone whose views are worth the time it takes to mull over and consider. Listening to this and getting a real sense of how Clementine is similar to me in terms of love and vulnerability but actually teaching that actually our experiences as women are more similar than they are different. I highly recommend this book and once I have absorbed what I have heard I’ll have a listen to one of her other books.

BEAUTIFUL not enough said

The warmth of the voice and the warmth of the words- an unique combination that made me look forward to listen to this audiobook as soon as I had a spare minute. I cannot describe how much I’ve enjoyed it and how much I found myself in so many of Clementine’s experiences. The way she talks about love - enlightening! Thank you, Clementine Ford ❤️

A bit monotonous!

I can’t decide if I loved this one or hated it! At times very dull, fascinating at others!
