About this listen

This first book of the Holding Their Own series, A Story of Survival, is set in the year 2015, when the world is burdened by the second Great Depression. The United States, already weakened by internal strife, becomes the target of an international terror plot. A series of attacks results in thousands of casualties and disables the country's core infrastructure. The combination of economic hardship and the staggering blow of the terror attacks results in a collapse of the government.

This is a realistic story of how an average, middle class couple survives the cascading events brought on by international politics, high tech military actions and the eventual downfall of society. All of their survival skills are tested during the action packed expedition in a world that resembles the American West of 200 years past.

A good story, just get past the terrible recording

Would you try another book written by Joe Nobody or narrated by D. Allen?

yes, bought/downloaded the other 4 books in the series, which all have a much much much better standard of recording and narration

What other book might you compare Holding Their Own: A Story of Survival to, and why?

Surviviors - James Wesley, Rawles
The Survivalist Series - A. American
The Remaining - D. J. Molles

Would you be willing to try another one of D. Allen’s performances?

depends on the book, not the narrator

Was Holding Their Own: A Story of Survival worth the listening time?

yes, enjoyed the series

Any additional comments?

give the first book in the series a chance, the recording is terrible quality (seriously - its terrible and sounds like its been chopped and pasted together from different recording sessions) and the narration is not the best (its clearly not the narrators 'day job'), but the story is good, and hooks you in. The other 4 books in the series (so far) are all recorded/narrated at a much better quality.

If i was the author/publisher, i would seriously think about getting this book (book 1 of the series) rerecorded, as it probably puts a lot of listeners off.

What didn’t you like about D. Allen’s performance?

Sounds like it was recorded on a laptop

I wish I had listened to the sample of this book as it sounds like it was recorded on a laptop, terrible quality I couldn't listen to more than 5 minutes of this. Save yourself the trouble and buy the book.
