Summary

The Quest to Rediscover Microsoft’s Soul and Imagine a Better Future for Everyone

Microsoft’s CEO tells the inside story of the company’s continuing transformation, while tracing his own journey from a childhood in India to leading some of the most significant changes of the digital era.

LONGLISTED FOR THE FT & MCKINSEY BUSINESS BOOK OF THE YEAR AWARD

Satya Nadella grew up in India, studied in the US and went on to become Microsoft’s third CEO after Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer. In Hit Refresh he offers a unique view of the transformation happening inside one of the world’s most iconic tech companies, and the arrival of the most exciting and disruptive wave of technology humankind has experienced – including artificial intelligence, mixed reality, and quantum computing.

Nadella examines how people, organisations and societies can and must transform – ‘hit refresh’ – in their persistent quest for new energy, new ideas, and continued relevance and renewal. Yet at its core, this book is about humans, and how one of our essential qualities – empathy – will become ever more valuable in a world where technological advancement will alter the status quo as never before.

promising start...

loved the initial principles but got bogged down in tech. Guiding principles about creating organisational change were great but a little too much tech future chat for my liking

Starts really well but then

Starts well but then the intriguing personal story at the beginning evolves into an explanation of what and why of Microsoft. Almost an explanation as to why we slacked off but now we are getting back on track so don t worry..

Thought provoking and relevant

Excellent commentary of the world and its future, and not only Microsoft's place within it, but everyone's.

mostly an extended Microsoft brochure

Started really strongly, but felt like it became a walk through the Microsoft brochure at times. some interesting points around his life and quantum computing but mostly felt like a sales pitch for o365 and azure

inspiring with a spit

Sataya tells us an amazing story of changing Microsoft. There are some great insights into the way the company has changed and the way businesses should be looking towards the future. At times there's a little too much Microsoft spin but in actual fact they have a lot to be proud of in the changes they've made over the last few years and in the impact they are having.

Really worth your time

I came to hit refresh with an open mind. I was conscious of the negative reviews that this was a "Microsoft promo book" but this wasn't the case for me. I only knew parts of Satya story so it was good to gain context. I am pleased he took the time to write this book during his tenrure and I only slightly disappointed that he didn't take time to record all of the audio version. I think this would have given more power to his authentic voice

A fantastic insight to Microsoft and it's CEO

I listened to this before going to Inspire, which was perfect timing to appreciate the changes Microsoft are going through and get an insight into Satya's focus on technology and culture
