Ok but far from great

As a Scot I can only say that some of the pronunciation of place names etc was terrible and far from accurate. There also seemed to be the same sections of audio repeated in various chapters. It’s ok to learn a bit more about Scotland’s history and I assume designed for American audiences. A few of the views on the SNP and Independence are somewhat skewed to sounding supportive even though Scotland actually rejected independence in a 2014 Referendum.

constrained independence.

it's a bit sloppy for the editors not to correct the reference to Thomas Cromwell at the battle of Dunbar. it was Oliver Cromwell. otherwise a very good telling of the story.

Appalling pronunciation

Good content badly let down by the narrator's mispronounciation of names of people and places. Also, in my copy of the ebook, the entire book is repeated after it is finished for the first time.

A poor book throughout

This book is read by an American who cannot pronounce Scottish places, even well known cities as Edinburgh and Glasgow. So if your Scottish like myself, it will drive you mad. The text itself is interesting but very repetitive throughout. I don’t recommend this book in any way! First bad book on audible and I have listened to a lot!!

An interesting book ruined by the narration.

Native Scots (and many others) will squirm at this narrators mangled pronunciation of Scottish place names. Surely it is a small matter to research these or take advice before starting on this task. The voice is otherwise rather stilted and unengaging. This is a pity because the book has some interesting information and novel perspectives which I and many others will miss out on because the narration is so unbearable.

good but mispronounced

all three parts mispronounced almost every place name. part 1 had some glaring omissions such as the jacobites and Highland clearances which were not mentioned. part 2 and 3 were engaging and detailed.

Poor narration

A bit embarrassing to have a book on the history of Scotland where the narrator can't pronounce the names of towns and cities properly. Claimed to have 3 parts to the book but parts 2 and 3 are just a rejigging of part 1

Pro-NONE-ciation

I downloaded this as I wanted to know all about the history of Scotland. The story is really good but I just cannot stand the way the two American narrators pronounce the majority of the names of the city's, towns and villages. It's frankly awful and becomes incredibly painful almost to the point of stopping completely. If they'd taken a bit of time to learn that you don't pronounce the W in Glasgow and Berwick and the Burgh's are not Burgs then this would have been a great success. I think they should go back and make these amends.
