About this listen

Passion flares between enemies

Two hotheaded Highlanders, the offspring of feuding lairds, are tricked by the King's Regent into a desperate choice: marry or die. Bhaic MacPherson is more disposed to lead his clan into battle than stay married to the daughter of his enemy. But perhaps the intensity of his feelings has more to do with desire than hostility.

And the Highlands ignite

Ailis Robertson wanted a husband, not a savage - but when her family was faced with a deadly ultimatum, she had no choice. The union of a MacPherson and a Robertson could end three generations of hostilities between the two families, but can bitter rivals truly become lovers?

Brilliant story

The story was great lots of added fun plots that I wasn't expecting but the narrator mispronounced so many Scottish words. A Scottish narrator would have been much better to listen to.

in 2 minds about it

I was thoroughly enjoying the book until it got to the consummation part! Basically it becomes about a really lonely woman being desperate for some affection, attention, human warmth & connection... definitely not what I'd call romantic!

With so many other opportunities, the author chose the most dubious scenario & worst of all, never really dealt with the ramifications of the MacPherson men's actions... she just brushes it under the table as though it's perfectly reasonable & acceptable...

First, Bhaic states that he's waiting for Ailis to come to him of her own accord, yet when the time comes, it's at someone else's behest & command!

The consummation comes about after her (only) friend had been imprisoned & that Bhaic not only agreed with said imprisonment, but also to separate Ailis from her (only) friend.

Considering also that Ailis has been secluded from her family, has mostly been ostracised by the MacPherson clan, including being slapped by a servant, suffering a multitude of indignities, their clan thinks nothing of separating her from the only person who is friendly to her... but according to the author, this is not only perfectly ok... but allegedly romantic as well... WTAF?!?

Not only that, but also straight after Ailis has concluded that she's no more than a prisoner... which makes their love making quite problematic in my eyes...

She's a captive, who the clan strive to keep her as secluded as poss, who's lonely, friendless... yet, the author tries to imply that she's taking her power back by sleeping with the man who is responsible for her misery?!

Also... why on earth do they keep being frisky outdoors when they know they're being watched & followed?!? It's nonsensical!

Mostly About Sex

A disappointing story line which could have been much stronger, but usually ended up with everything revolving around detailed sexual encounters, rather than an exciting backdrop to the theme. Well narrated though and well written generally.

No boring , hero was a meek tip rat, heroine was daft

Heroine was in no way a spitfire she was as docile as a bunny rabbit, your man the hero , grief was a dolt and not much a hero at all .
Plot line was atrocious... started great but had to skip and skip and skip ,
