Summary

Bàs Sinclair is the cold and brutal hand—and sword—of justice across the Highlands. He has one destiny: to bring fear into the hearts of guilty men. But when he is called to execute a midwife for her crimes, he cannot raise his weapon. For Bàs already knows this lovely part-wild creature. After all, she gave him his first and only kiss …

Shana Drummond will do anything to protect her beloved sister. Now her cruel, merciless brother-in-law has called upon Bàs to have Shana killed for crimes she didn’t commit. She can’t reconcile the cold lethal warrior before her with the gentle one she met—nay, kissed—only days before.

But mercy from Bàs can only lead to one thing: war among the clans. A war that will test allegiances, tear families apart, and challenge everything Bàs knows about himself and his heart. Because once this Highlander knows love, nothing will stop him from keeping Shana safe … even if it means destroying his own destiny.

My heart is still bleeding for Bäs

Timothy Campbell was as always, fantastic!

My poor Bäs, I think he deserved a lot better than he got, tbh...

At first I mostly liked Shana, but after the incident, I couldn’t warm to her again!

His HEA left me disappointed... Shana became as bad if not worse than all the strangers who feared him... she herself had misgivings & any smart woman would've known that something wasn't right, but she turned on him instead...

Also that she only changed her mind when she needed his help didn't improve matters IMO.

Ivy was a complete ninny... she turned on those who declared war to save her... I'm glad she disappeared after that!

All in all, I was really disappointed that Bäs didn't get a better woman than the one he got... his was the story I was most looking forward to from the 1st book & the author gave him a faithless wife, which meant that I couldn't get that warm, fuzzy feeling by the time the book ended... a real shame :((

An Absolutely Brilliant Book

I have loved this series of books & was so pleased to finally listen to hear Bas`s story. I have seen that Hannah`s story is finally out as a book but not on Audio book. I will wait for when it is because my Scottish accent does not compare to Timothy Campbell., who as usual was first class.
Everything about this book was brilliant so I would definitely recommend it.

Bas is great, but weak character for female lead

This is the first book in this series that I've not really been hooked by and today I realised it's because the female lead feels empty. Ella, Kara and Kate were such deep and well established characters, and continue to be, in this book as well. But Shana is ... flat. There's no depth to her, and Bas' attraction to her is based solely on her looks. It feels like a let down because Bas has intrigued me since the first book, and this story dives deep into his character and emotions which is great to learn so much more about him. He is such a gentle personality, he is a wonderful character. However, in previous stories we've learned about the male character as they have fought to establish themselves alongside the female character and in doing so we also learn deeply about her. This one is just all about Bas. Which is fine if you're ok with a vapid, senseless romance. I'd just come to expect more from this series. All of that said, we need more male characters asking for consent. That is the stuff dreams are made of, imo. Tim Campbell doing a stellar job as always with character voices. He is so consistent, it's a joy to listen to. Even the odd mispronounced word is forgiveable for such a fantastic overall experience.
