Summary
All I wanted was a break–two weeks off from being Pixie Hart, country music sensation, and 14 days of peace, privacy, and solitude as plain old Kelly Jo Sullivan.
But thanks to some overzealous paparazzi, my family refuses to let me go anywhere alone, and I’m stuck sharing this tiny cabin with a tall, dark, and bearded bodyguard.
And guess what? There’s only one bed.
Well, he can couch it.
Xander Buckley might be hotter than a stolen blow torch, and I get that he’s a former Navy SEAL and all, but the man gives new meaning to the words overbearing, overprotective, bossy alpha male. I can’t even post a photo on social media without him warning me it’s not safe or take a morning jog without him following behind.
But he’s made it clear that what he says goes, and if I don’t like it, I can kiss my vacation good-bye.
Instead, I end up kissing him.
I don’t even know how it happened–one minute we were at each other’s throats, the next we were at each other’s mercy. What’s even more shocking is how good we are together. He understands my need for freedom, and I understand his need for control.
But emotional trust doesn’t come easily to me. And we’re on two completely different paths.
Without question, I’d put my life in his hands.
Just don’t ask me to give him my heart.

Another enjoyable read
Well, I’ve listened to this in one day, which should tell you something! Nothing groundbreaking, just a lovely, romantic listen with characters you are rooting for. I will listen to the next in the series when it arrives. Definitely worth a credit!

Great story with incredible narrators!
Hideaway Heart is the second book in Melanie Harlow's small town series Cherry Tree Harbor and is Xander and Kelly's addictive story.
To the world Kelly Jo Sullivan is Pixie Hart, Country Music's Sweetheart but all she wants is to just be herself, plain old Kelly Jo. So when it's time for a vacation Kelly wants a quiet secluded getaway where nobody knows her for Pixie Hart and she can just be herself. But when her brother finds out that she'll be all alone in a cabin in the woods he decides she needs security whether she wants it or not!
Xander Buckley owes Kevin Sullivan his life, Sully is the reason Xander is still alive today, he risked his life to save him whilst they were serving in the Navy together. So when Sully rings up asking for Xander to provide security to his famous little sister, even though spending two weeks in a cabin with a celebrity is the last thing Xander wants, he'll do anything for Sully.
Of course Kelly is not pleased to see Xander, she doesn't need some security guy crashing and ruining her vacation, but for her brother's sake she'll try to play nice!
But nobody could of predicted how intense their connection would be and how fast the sparks would fly. At first Xander resists Kelly's advances, she's Sully's sister and his client he cannot cross that line. But spending all day together in a tiny cabin he can only resist Kelly for so long! So they agree to have a little fun whilst they're at the cabin and when those two weeks are up, they'll go back to their separate lives with a lot of great memories.
However when the time comes to leave their hideaway bubble, it makes them realise that what they're feeling is anything but a fling, it something so much more.
But Xander and Kelly come from two completely different worlds, Kelly is Country Music's Sweetheart, her life is filled with concerts, many different appearances and making music which leaves little time for anything else and Xander is just about to open his bar, his life belongs in Cherry Tree Harbor and the thought of having to share Kelly with the world is making him question everything.
But no matter the obstacles that stand between them and being twelve hours apart they cannot deny what they feel for each other and how perfect they fit together.
Can Kelly and Xander find a way to make things work and give long distance a try?
Read Hideaway Heart now to find out!
I LOVED Hideaway Heart, it was so good I could not put it down and listened to it in one sitting! Xander and Kelly have become one of my favourite Melanie Harlow couples, they were so easy to fall for and their story has stayed with me long after I listened to The End. I cannot wait for the next books in this incredible series which is quickly becoming one of my favourites! The thing I really loved about Hideaway Heart is getting to revisit with Austin, Veronica and the twins and seeing how they are getting on after their happily ever after was the icing on an already incredible cake! Patrick Zeller and Amanda Stribling done an incredible job of bringing Kelly and Xander to life.

not for me!
Story is slow, didn't grab my interest, found the characters a bit dull. The male narrative is fine but I didn't like the female narrator, quite irritating. I have all Melanie's books and this is the first one I haven't enjoyed. I have returned it for a refund. Sorry

cute
This book was super cute. I loved it.
All good feels.
It wasn't a literary masterpiece, and it was pretty predictable. But yeah, it's a feel-good book that had me giggling and entertained. All I really want from a romance novel.
