About this listen
Horowitz acknowledges that America's political culture is the creation of white, European, primarily Christian males. But it is these very men and their heirs that have led the world in abolishing slavery, establishing the principles of ethnic and racial inclusion, and creating a society of unparalleled rights and opportunities that people of every race and creed continue to flock to. Horowitz points to the hypocrisy of this and challenges racism in all its forms, especially the hidden ones.

"Jeff Riggenbach does a particularly good job, reading with accuracy, expression, and appropriate fervor." (AudioFile)
"This is a raw and courageous book that turns over some rocks and shows what is crawling underneath." (Thomas Sowell)

No Holds Barred
Well ... Wow! This book pulls absolutely no punches. It lays out the stats and figures that shine a light on the situation we find society in today. Despite this book being written some 20+ years ago, the trappings of what has ballooned today in the form of identity politics are all there. I must confess to not having even noticed back in the late 90's any of this, but it may have had its real roots in America and not affected the UK.
I learnt about very unpalatable, and I fancy, largely unknown, things about the Black Panthers and Bill Clinton's presidency. In that regard, this book is certainly an eye opener and the section covering the Black Panthers and the authors direct experience of them is both gripping and shocking.
Many potential readers would label this work a "right wing polemic". It may come across that way with the author's strong opinions, but it is really addressing the decades long slide to the far left in political terms. It's a sobering calling out of the divisive ideologies now so prevalent in the West.
This book also provides quite a history lesson which places the current, often revisionist, historical claims into perspective.
I would warn those younger potential listeners to read this in order to challenge the indoctrination they are likely to have been fed in the educational system.
Be warned, there are no "safe spaces" in this book.
Educational, shocking, hard hitting, visceral at times and always revealing.

Story
Fascinating but now Dated and American Centric
David’s journey is both fascinating and revealing but as a none American, many of the significant characters in his life were unknown to me. However, his journey from the hard left of politics to a more nuanced centralist will be a familiar one to many. But alas, the Marxist mantra still pervades the education system today and colours the political views of naive graduates under the influence of college professors who have never had a real job outside of academia.. much like Marx himself.
