Summary

Penguin Classics presents Jonathan Swift's inventive classic, Gulliver's Travels, adapted for listening and now available as a digital audiobook as part of the Penguin English Library series. This abridged version is read by Hugh Laurie, star of the hit TV series House.

"Fifteen hundred of the Emperor's largest horses, each about four inches and an half high, were employed to draw me towards the Metropolis, which, as I said, was half a Mile distant."

A savage and hilarious satire, Gulliver's Travels sees Lemuel Gulliver shipwrecked and adrift, subject to bizarre and unnerving encounters with - among others - quarrelling Lilliputians, philosophising horses, and the brutish Yahoo tribe that change his view of humanity - and himself - forever. Swift's classic of 1726 portrays mankind in a distorted hall of mirrors as a diminished, magnified, and finally, bestial species, presenting us with a comical yet uncompromising reflection of ourselves.

The Penguin English Library contains 100 editions of the best fiction in English, from the eighteenth century and the very first novels to the beginning of the First World War. Part of a collection of vintage recordings taken from the Penguin Archives, the Penguin English Library series offers affordable, collectable, quality productions that are perfect for on-the-go listening.

a literary gem indeed!

superb classic, clever and amusing, read clearly and wittily by Hugh Laurie at his best.

well cast narrator

Great reading by Laurie. But the script is excessively edited, differs from original slightly. It tends to cut out a lot of the specifics and elaborations out as well as the more 'controversial' material.

Okay but misses a lot of information

It was a good reading however it misses out a lot of information from the exact edition of the book and is difficult to listen too alongside reading it.

Che delusione

Ho acquistato questo audiolibro perché avevo la medesima edizione della Penguin. Purtroppo l’attore salta intere frasi e non è facile seguire sul libro. Che delusione!
