About this listen
NOW A MAJOR BBC DRAMA, AVAILABLE TO WATCH ON BBC THREE NOW
'An essential read for anyone with the slightest interest in the birth of Grime' The Wire
'Sharp and nostalgic' The Observer
A group of kids in the 90s had a dream to make their voice heard - and this book documents their seminal impact on today's pop culture.
DJ Target grew up in Bow under the shadow of Canary Wharf, with money looming close on the skyline. The 'Godfather of Grime' Wiley and Dizzee Rascal first met each other in his bedroom. They were all just grime kids on the block back then, and didn't realise they were to become pioneers of an international music revolution. A movement that permeates deep into British culture and beyond. Household names were borne out of those housing estates, and the music industry now jumps to the beat of their gritty reality rather than the tune of glossy aspiration. Grime has shaken the world and Target is revealing its explosive and expansive journey in full, using his own unique insight and drawing on the input of grime's greatest names.

a comprehensive history or now UK music took shape
For anyone who is interested in UK music be that Grime, garage or jungle this audio book is essential. Dj targets unique perspective from a youth first experiencing the UK jungle emergence to his times setting up Pay as you go cartel, becoming a prominent figure on the pirate radio scene and being on the forefront of when the garage sound started to evolve into the new kind of music that allowed mcs to take the centre stage. This audio book is a must listen for anyone that would like to learn where crime came from and the Amazing achievements that have been achieved from this captivating music genre.

Gritty and Explosive
Great to listen to a subject I did not know much about. The narrative was clear and precise - it also reflected on my experience growing up in East London. DJ Target was raw and his own interpretation was flawless facts. The music incorporated an industry that is bursting at the seams. From ragga, jungle, garage inflamed the torch for Grime . I highly recommend this book because of the in depth life living and existing within inner city life which surroundings is masked by poverty and deprivation.

Must read.
There’s nobody better to tell the story of Grime than DJ Target. This is a great book and the audiobook read by the man himself is too good to miss. Open Spotify, listen along and enjoy.
