'A powerful vision for a brighter future – for both people and the planet.' Jay Shetty
'A tour de force' Dr Mark Hyman
Fix your metabolism to feel better today and prevent disease tomorrow. A bold new vision for optimizing our health now and for the future.
What if depression, anxiety, infertility, insomnia, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s, dementia, cancer and many other health conditions actually have the same root cause?
Our ability to prevent and reverse these conditions – and feel incredible today – is under our control and simpler than we think. The key is our metabolic function – the most important and least understood factor in our overall health. As Dr Casey Means explains in this groundbreaking book, nearly every health problem we face can be explained by how well the cells in our body create and use energy. To live free from frustrating symptoms and life-threatening disease, we need our cells to be optimally powered so that they can create 'good energy', the essential fuel that impacts every aspect of our physical and mental wellbeing.
If you are battling signals of 'bad energy' inside your body, it is often a warning sign that more life-threatening illness may emerge later in life. Weaving together cutting-edge research and personal stories, Good Energy offers an essential four-week plan and explains:
- The five biomarkers that determine your risk for a deadly disease
- Six lifelong food principles to implement whether you’re carnivore or vegan
- The crucial links between sleep, circadian rhythm, and metabolism
- A framework for exercise focused on building simple movement into every day
- How cold and heat exposure helps build our body’s resilience
- Steps to navigate the medical system to get what you need for optimal health
Good Energy offers a new, cutting-edge understanding of the true cause of illness. It will help you optimize your ability to live well and stay well at every age.

Actionable advice
This book is well written. There was not much new information for me as I have already read the books and listened to the podcasts referenced in the book but there was a clear actionable plan at the end which I liked.

Interesting audiobook
I think I'd prefer a hard copy of this book. It's packed with information but is still delivered in a way that can be understood by most people. It is very monotone delivery, which is sad because the author is passionate and engaging on other platforms - it makes it hard to listen to at times, especially when reading lists of food. It's a little doom-y at times, but lightens up in other places - we all need to hear this information!

There was a lot of very interesting information in the book.
The narrative was extremely monotone which made it incredibly difficult to listen to beyond short bursts which is a real shame because the information is clearly good.

The realities of life that we are hidden away from is shocking
They want you poor and weak. This book helps to overcome to long reaching programming arm of large companies. Every marketed product is a trojan horse. They do not care about you, just about the profits.
This book helps ensure you avoid traps set by the companies and stop them from profiting from your healths expense.
Totally amazing book, read if you are ready for a change.

Not great for audio
While the narration is clear, it is monotone and, combined with the countless lists of medical/scientific terms (presumably to reinforce the ‘Stanford expertise’ of the author), it’s hard to maintain focus or interest.
