About this listen
A 10 million dollar MMORPG tournament. An invincibility hack gone wrong. Welcome to MythRune.
With his glory days behind him and nothing but life as a loser to look forward to, Zane can’t wait for MythRune. A first-of-its-kind immersive fantasy game that promises to provide just the escape from reality a washed-up athlete like him needs.
But when his younger brother learns he only has weeks left to live, Zane is forced to take his gaming to the next level if he’s going to afford to pay for his brother’s operation and ditch their sorry life forever.
To celebrate the launch of MythRune, the game’s developers announce a worldwide player tournament. The prize? Ten million dollars. More than enough.
Utilizing a God Mode bug to make himself invincible, Zane aims to win it all without getting caught.
But it doesn’t work as planned. Between pain-sensitivity glitches, exploitative players, a reworked world map, and a leveling system unlike anything he’s ever seen, Zane realizes there’s much more to pro gaming than staying alive.
From the authors behind Djinn Tamer comes a brand-new LitRPG series that combines fresh twists with everything you love about the genre - skill trees, leveling, magic systems, party-building, and so much more.

Great Story
This a great story, well told with good characterisation. If this is your genre, then you'll find this a great listen.
As there aren't age ratings, it's worth saying that there's a fair bit of mild swearing, so beware if younger kids are listening.

extremely repetitive
the concept of the book is quite good, but the execution is poor at best. within the first dozen chapters I was bored of amount of "in my football day" type of line. the story actually goes nowhere.

it's a ok first start
It's a interesting start to the world if you can get over the fact that the main character is ment to be a good gamer. but play's the game like a noob clueless idiot and the other characters are more annoying than likeable as the story goes on. fingers crossed it gets better character development in the next book's or that he gets caught cheating and it ends the series.

Loved it
A really great take on the LitRPG genre and I pretty much loved it all.
Great story with some quality fights and a great stat system!
Great narration too with great voices and pacing.
Did I mention it’s great!? I can’t wait for the next instalment!
This is my honest opinion on a free review copy.

Excellent LitRPG book not just for gamers
I am fairly new to the LitRPG genre but of the ones I have read this is up there as a firm favourite. Whilst the storyline favours the old hero try’s to help a sick relative arc, this in no way makes the book feel stale or old hat, and if anything the way the novel was written makes it feel comfortable and helps you slip right into the story, even though you are just learning the backstory of the characters. Pack does his usual great job of bringing the various parts to life, whilst equally providing both the humour and desperation of the main character Zane’s plight to allow the reader/listener to really get the story from their perspective. I highly recommend this book, not just for gamers but for sci-fi/ fantasy lovers as well.

Dull, the main Character is thick and boring
Really wanted to like this book. The main Character is so thick it frustrating. On top of that all he does is moan. This does not make for an enjoyable read. No humour, no action, poor stats and gear.
