Summary

In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris's, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos. With eloquent clarity, Hitchens frames the argument for a more secular life based on science and reason, in which the heavens are replaced by the Hubble Telescope's awesome view of the universe, and Moses and the burning bush give way to the beauty and symmetry of the double helix.

Complete and Unabridged edition, narrated by the author.

Wit, Charm, knowledge, delivered in dulcit tones.

I could listen to Christopher Hitchens all day (and indeed have on occasion). I miss the arsenal of encyclopedic, historical political knowledge he drew on to exquisitely articulate his arguments. Love his ironic wordsmithery.

Hitch at his best

I only became aware of Hitch 3 years ago some 7 years after this phenomenal man died.
what an inspiration he is.Showing that you don't have to live a perfect life,to influence millions of people.
But you do have to question all those who shout loudly and tell you that they are right and you have to do what they say.
one of the greatest thinkers of our time, what a great debt we owe to him for his uncompromising, intelligent, peotic,,thought provoking insights onto how man continues to try and control his fellow man.
He ranks right up there with Carl Sagan and, like Sagan, is a source of energy for all of us skeptics as we fight the theologians

Inspirational

This is a great book and probably one of the few that I can see myself listening to again because it is has such depth. Hitchens has a very engaging writing style and it’s good to hear him deliver his own words. It is important that someone is prepared to say these things because we have gone backwards in recent times and people have become afraid to speak honestly about religion. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough.

The Gospel as it should be!

Christopher Hitchens is a master story teller, gifted speaker and literary genius.

This book Is a fantastic starting place for anyone who has questions against organised religion. Christopher lays out a fantastic viewpoint on so many subjects from nature, to miracles, to ritual and far beyond.
The best bit about this book is it is open, honest and encourages you to investigate for yourself. At no point are you forced into an opinion You are only encouraged to explore for your own self.

Gone too soon

If all of these Faith's are so devine and right in the eyes of their gods, why do books like this send them into such vicious tantrums.

Essential reading/listening for every schoolchild.

This book should on the curriculum for every school which teaches religious education. It is the perfect balance to the “teaching god as fact” faction.

It should, actually, be required reading for every human being. Religion is the root of all evil.
