9 year old grandson enjoyed this book very much
I got this for my grandson aged 9 who is an excellent reader. he had had the abridged edition through Kids Geographic. he was glued to his MP3 player. he found it funny and entertaining. Had a quick listen myself and it well read and lots of fun and informative.

The exaggerated fake American accent was intolerable
I think the story is probably good. My kids liked the book when they read it and we already listened to the first book. All was going fine until they introduced an American child with the most horrendous mocking exaggeration of what British people image Americans sound like. The whole family found it intolerable and had to spend the rest of the long drive in silence. In future I recommend the publishers look for a narrator who has at the very least met someone with the accent they are trying to imitate, because this one apparently hasn’t.

Entertaining and educational
See my review for George's Secret Key to the Universe. Both these audio books are excellent and rewarding. I would say they would especially appeal to kids of 9–11, especially boys (and their mums). Younger children would probably enjoy them and maybe those a little older too but teenagers would probably feel that the characters are too young. Despite the brilliance of their authors, these stories are fun, easy to follow and not too erudite. The information filters through without any sense that we are learning lessons. My son has listened to both books over and over again and is now an excellent authority on the solar system at his school.
